Overall purpose of the role

The Livelihoods officer is responsible for all the following up of the livelihoods activities including the activities implementation, reporting deadlines, training and support from other departments in additional to another livelihoods tasks in the area.

Main responsibilities        

  • Overall technical responsibility for the project – designing on-farm structures, planning and costing inputs (labor, finance and materials), technical assistance and capacity building for the team.
  • sensitize key stakeholders - Government and I/NGos - working in target districts, sub-districts and, communities about the project concept, benefits, targeting criteria, implementation strategies and modalities, monitoring and other such aspects.
  • Identifying/selecting target communities and beneficiaries, as per agreed criteria and, in sensitizing them about the interventions and benefits.
  • Work with DRC Project Management to ensure needed procurement of the project. Upon training to beneficiaries, ensure supply of items, distribution and extend technical support to establish their gardens and receiving their training.
  • Undertake visits to assist and participating communities and households to monitor, report and extend technical support to ensure the productive all-round the year, and training were take place in time and quality.
  • Prepare and submit monitoring and progress reports from time to time.
  • Assist DRC Project Team in regular monitoring and progress reporting on project activities;
  • When assigned, represent DRC in the cluster coordination meetings at Amrran level.
  • Maintain good relations with local authorities, and seek their support when needed;
  • Attend to other tasks as and when assigned by your supervisor;

Essential qualities and experiences: 

  • Bachelor Degree Agricultural Engineering or related disciplines, or related field related to emergency for rural conflict areas
  • At least two years working with humanitarian organization, emergency context.
  • Must be proficient Arabic and English.
  • Good familiarity to security, programming, and cultural contexts in the north area;
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Communities and employees training skills.
  • Ability to develop work monitoring tools.
  • Ability to work well in unstable and frequently changing security environments.
  • Ability and willingness to frequently travel among different districts
  • Very good organizational skills, self-motivated and efficient, with willingness to pay attention to details

Languages: (indicate fluency level)

  • Good English language (written and spoken)
  • Excellent report writing skills including editing the work of others
  • Fluency in Arabic language (written and spoken)
