The Job

Save the Children in Yemen is looking for eligible candidates for the positions of:

Research Officer 2 – Hodeida

Job Purpose:

Save the Children International (SCI) Yemen Country Programme has an annual budget of around USD 70 million and growing, working mainly on the humanitarian response to the ongoing conflict and its impact including more recently on the cholera outbreak. The SCI Yemen has over 700 staff and 1500 volunteers and works in nine governorates in the north and south of the country through seven field offices and two sub-offices in addition to the main office in Sana’a.

ROLE PURPOSE: The objective of this position is to support the roll out of the CMAM study in Hodeida. The chosen candidate will mainly work on collecting, collating and entering data for the causal analysis, relapse study and effectiveness evaluation studies in Hodeida governorate. The incumbent will collate secondary data from supported health facilities in Hodeida, conduct follow up visits where necessary and admisitering the questionniaire to study particpiants. The research officer will work colsosely with the nutrtion program team and MEAL team.

Key areas of Responsibilities:

  • With guidance from research team, design database to collate specific CMAM related program data as needed by the research team
  • Work closely with the information management officers, H&N Officersto ensure that data is captured accurately and is verified.

  • Collect secondary data such as survey, research reports conducted by other partners or available at Hodeidah level and share with research team
  • Support Research team in reviewing the available secondary data and identifying information gaps at field level
  • Make network with other humanitarian INGOs and cluster to have the most recent needed information.

Support Senior Research team to design context specific tools and protocols for the studies

  • Support Nutrition TA/Research team in designing questionnaires for primary data collection on causes of malnutrition and relapses.
  • Support research team in translating the tools and questionnaires from English to Arabic
  • Support rearch team in understanding the context, feasibility of implementing protocol and administering questionnaire during design phase
  • Support in broader research process such as research design, development of research questions, developing plan of analysis, etc.

Primary data collection, cleaning, storage and analysis of information

  •  In collaboration with MEAL team, lead the primary data collection in line with the defined questionnaire, and protocol
  • Lead and or conduct data collection on additional variables as required by the research team
  • With support from Research team, train the data collection team on administering questionnaire
  • Oversee data entry, cleaning and storage of data and ensure security of data following organizational IT policy
  • Conduct focus group discussions in health facilities, communities with Men, Women, Boys and Girls including SAM caregivers
  • Summarize qualititative information from FGDs
  • Data analysis and reporting

Research Coordination and Collaboration

  • Coordinate with all stockholders to ensure smooth implementation of assessment and field visits.
  • Provide support in organising and communicating data to project teams
  • Support ethics submission and follow-up.
  • Provide support in implementation research such as meeting coordination among collaborators, documentation, meeting reports, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’sDegreein Nutrition, Public Health,Social Sciences(or equivalent qualification&/or experience)

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Minimum of 2 years experience with collection, management, analysis, and of routine health system dataExcellent quantitative analytical skills;
  • Proven record of report writing;
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills in order to understand the range and content of the emergency programmes’ work and provide practical solutions to operational challenges;
  • Ability to work with children and affected individuals and groups;
  • Fluency in English and Arabic;
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams including international and national personnel;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and work-ethic;
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills (particularly looking for a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines);
  • High computer skills on MS Office programs, especially in MS Excel;
  • A commitment to the values and principles of Save the Children
