The Job

Child Safeguarding Coordinator - Hajja & Sa'ada (Based Hajja)

Position Objectives:

Save the Children is a dual mandate organization which seeks to make breakthroughs in the The purpose of this role is to ensure Save the Children International is safeguarding children in the respective projects and ensure that child safeguarding is prioritized and embedded in awareness, reporting and response.
The position holder will be responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of the the Child Safeguarding policy includes mandatory requirements that apply to everyone in all aspects of Save the Children’s work, and whether in development programmes or humanitarian and emergency responses with cooperation of the other Child Safeguarding focal points in all field offices as well to ensure that all programming is designed, implemented and monitored through a Child Safeguarding lens.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Raise awareness on the policy to staff  in their field offices with regular/quarterly orientations.
  • Develop capacity building plan for staff and partners and provide on-going mentoring and support
  • Serve as child safeguarding lead focal point for the country office and lead on establishing strong child safeguarding procedures and risk assessment in all programme activities
  • Build capacity of staff and partners in safe programming and CSG risk assessment and mitigation
  • Lead the mapping process to identify and develop Local/Country Child Safeguarding Procedures for reporting and responding to child abuse.
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners and other organisations, including national statutory agencies, to promote the continuous development and monitoring of inter-agency child safeguarding practices.
  • Ensure that the safeguarding mechanisms are in place and are subject to continuous monitoring/review.
  • Oversee and enforce follow-up in order to ensure maximum levels of compliance and competence.
  • Identify and utilise opportunities to integrate safeguarding approaches into all aspects of our work
  • Apply critical analysis to ensure that we live up to our commitment to making Save the Children safe for children by ensuring that programmes are designed in a safe manner, child safeguarding concerns are reported effectively in line with the policy, acting as the country referral point
  • Deliver a suite of mandatory core training workshops as to enable staff with key responsibilities to undertake their roles and mainstream safeguarding functions.
  • Raise Awareness with volunteers and make sure that volunteers have signed, read and understand the policy before resuming their work.
  • Build trackers on staff, volunteers and partners who attended the orientation and share with CSG managers in monthly basis.
  •  Manage CSG budget for their field offices needs and work on that with the field team.
  • Develop capacity building plan for partners and their staff and provide on-going mentoring and support.
  • Work closely with partner CSG focal points in their organizations and provide support when necessary.
  • Establish a reporting mechanism with partners organizations and dessimniate with staff and benefecieries.
  • Ensure that all partner staff have signed, read and familiar to the policy.
  • Provide support on projects risk assessment with the partner management upon any project implementation.
  • Upload reports via Datix and ensuring child safeguarding concerns are reported effectively in line with the policy.
  • Work closely with SCI programme managers on project risk assessments.
  • Attend project kick-off meetings and ensure that child safeguarding policy is embedded as a mandatory part in the project plan.
  • Monitoring the policy implementation in all projects and make sure children are aware on how to report concerns.
  • Regular field visits to the project sites and provide report/assessment on the visit.
  • Raise awareness within the beneficiaries on the policy and the reporting mechanism.
  • Strengthen the capacity  of HR in delivering CSG Inductions and ensure Safe Recruitment.
  • Responsible for  issuing visibility materials related to CSG.
  • Oversee and enforce follow-up in order to ensure maximum levels of compliance and competence.
  • Identify and utilise opportunities to integrate safeguarding approaches into all aspects of our work
  • Ensure that concerns are followed up safely, effectively and efficiently and to the required standards.
  • Support staff to take proactive steps to ensure that all programming activity identifies the potential risks and works to eliminate and mitigate those risks.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor degree in social science or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Experience in child protection/child safeguarding practice in humanitarian setting
  •  2 – 3 years experience with organisations working with vulnerable communities and children
  • Familiar with Protection/Safeguarding or Human Resource to achieve policy change
  • Experience of planning and undertaking training programmes/workshops in child protection/safeguarding at a range of levels (e.g. field workers, managers, senior managers and decision makers)
  • Excellent verbal communication and report writing skills in English and Arabic language
  • Excellent presentation skills
