Overview
John Snow, Inc. (JSI), a Boston-based public health management firm dedicated to providing high quality technical and managerial assistance to public health programs throughout the United States and the low- and middle-income countries. JSI is seeking an accountant for the USAID funded System, Health and Resiliency Project (SHARP) in Yemen. The project has two overarching goals:
1) to reduce mortality among women of reproductive age, their newborns, and children under five and 2) to increase community and health system resiliency.
The accountant is a full time position based in Aden, Yemen. S/he will assist in maintaining the JSI financial accounts and administrative systems for SHARP. The Accountant will be responsible for the accounting system, expenditure projections, and expense monitoring and reconciliation. S/he will ensure cost-effectiveness, efficiency and accountability throughout the life of the program and will report to the Finance & Administration Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the day to day accounting including maintaining the JSI field accounts system, examining receipts and vouchers, reconciling advances, projecting and tracking expenditures and accruals;
- Ensure timely monthly financial reports to the Finance and Administration Manager.
- Assist in submitting monthly financial reports to Home Office and addressing the feedback and comments.
- Assist with the review of provincial expenses and uploads into the main accounting system;
- Review and facilitate fund request transfers to regional offices;
- Ensure all office space rentals are paid in time as per lease agreements and the rental schedule is constantly up dated;
- Tracking and monitoring of staff advances including reconciling of cash balances.
- Conduct financial supervisory visits in the provincial offices including continuous capacity building of Finance personnel;
- Ensure that all expenses incurred by project are paid for in a timely manner and ensure VAT free exemption;
- Process payroll including computation of all applicable deductions.
Qualifications:
- At least 4 years of financial & administrative experience;
- Financial & administrative experience with USAID-funded project & knowledge of USAID rules & regulations;
- Experience & knowledge of Yemen tax laws preferred;
- Excellent verbal & written English and Arabic skills
- Ability to take initiative & work in teams;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel;
- Experience with QuickBooks and experience working in an NGO/INGO, an added advantage
