The Job

Appel de Genève / Geneva Call is looking for Conflict Analyst/Liaison Officer

Geneva Call is an independent, neutral and impartial humanitarian, not for profit, non-governmental organization that promotes the respect for international humanitarian norms in armed conflicts and other situations of armed violence, in particular regarding the protection of civilians. Geneva Call is registered as a Foundation under Swiss law. It works in conflict zones around the globe.

Geneva Call is implementing a programme to improve protection of civilians in the context of the armed conflict in Yemen through engagements with armed actors and raising awareness of Yemeni civil society and community elders on humanitarian norms.

Position / TitleSecurity/Conflict Analyst/Liaison Officer

Lieu de travail / Work place: Aden, Yemen

Rôle / Overall activities

He/She is responsible of producing conflict and stakeholders analysis reports and developing profiling and mapping of key armed non-State actors (ANSAs) in Yemen. He/she will research the impact of the armed conflict with specific focus on protection of civilian issues related to ANSAs. He/she support Head of Mission maintaining contacts with ANSAs and authorities.

Role Responsibilities

Being responsible for conflict analysis

  • Work on actor mapping and conflict analysis
  • Develop conflict actors’ data base
  • Develop conflict analysis tools and trained partner CSOs and staff in it 
  • Develop and submit conflict analysis reports to MoH 

Being responsible for liaison with ANSAs and partner CSO

  • Develop contact list of stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with authorities
  • Provide conflict related information to HoM when required
  • Provide updates on humanitarian needs’ overviews

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Graduate  Degree in peace and conflict studies, international relations, security studies, social sciences or other related fields

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of work experience in the field of conflict and context analysis in humanitarian or international organizations  
  • Direct experience of working in a conflict zone and researching armed groups

Personal skills

Technical skills:

  • Knowledge of conflict and stakeholder analysis tools
  • Experience of engaging armed groups and other stakeholders desireable Strong presentational and writing - skills in Arabic and English
  • Demonstrable knowledge of issues of humanitarian affairs and capacity for political analysis
  • Very strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of security dynamics in conflict zones
  • Strong logic and organizational skills, flexibility and adaptability to change
  • Report writing skills
  • Proficient with MS Office

Languages:

  • Excellent written and oral skills in Arabic and English

Personal Qualities:

Desirable

  • Master degree in conflict studies, international relations, security studies
  • Previous experience in similar position
  • Previous direct work experience with armed actors
