Supervisor of:   Community Outreach Volunteers/ CFS Animators
Status:        Full-time

Project objectives: 

Project title: Emergency multi-sector response for Yemen in Taiz Governorate

The project provides an integrated multi-sector response within Taiz governorate, further building on previous OFDA-funded actions. The new intervention aims at enlarging the geographical coverage area in order to address specific gaps and needs, with particular attention to Taiz city, considering the high concentration of IDPs and the limited humanitarian presence in this area (especially for protection). The project provides for protection services (prevention and response), combined with nutritional care and treatment for CU5 and PLW suffering from acute malnutrition, and with WASH services for conflict affected communities. The WASH component provides targeted communities with both soft and hard services, including rehabilitation of drinking water supply and outreach through hygiene promotion.

Purpose/Objectives:
The CP Social Worker will work closely with the CP Activity Coordinator, the CP CMS, the peer SW and Volunteers to ensure that all child protection activities under the project are designed and implemented at high efficiency. Activities include supporting identified children through the provision of individual support and case management, psychosocial/psychological support, protection monitoring and referral. The Social Worker has to facilitate appropriate flow of communication between Volunteers, CMS, and AC to ensure consistency and effectiveness of the assistance provided. The Social Worker shall contribute to strengthening of the protection system defined by INTERSOS project in terms of referral pathway and case management.


Responsibilities/duties:

Case Management:

  • Identify, counsel and follow-up individual child protection cases (self-referral, internal referral or referral by other actors), and assess their needs; 
  • Provide PSFA to each individual case identified;
  • Conduct assessment of vulnerable children, including environmental, emotional, behavioral, and social factors as well as resources and strengths that impact the child well-being;
  • Conduct home visits to assess the living conditions of the cases;
  • Refer cases of identified child protection cases internally for PSC, legal assistance, cash assistance or other specialized services provided by INTERSOS when needed;
  • Conduct individual PSC sessions and family counselling with identified children and adult (parents/caregivers); 
  • Ensure coordination with the main service providers in the area of intervention for prompt referral, follow-up and information sharing;
  • Manage, fill, archive specific assessment forms for cases profiling, referral and weekly reporting ensuring confidentiality, accuracy and timeliness;
  • Be available to provide emergency assistance and basic emotional support for urgent child protection cases.
  • Coordinate with staff implementing activities in child friendly spaces in order to ensure timely and on-going case management support for identified vulnerable children and their families;
  • Ensure to maintain confidentiality and conduct all activities respectfully and in a way that is sensitive to the psychosocial needs of the case. Ensure that data protection protocol is respected;
  • Ensure to keep complete and well-organized records;

Psychosocial activities 

  • Support in organizing awareness sessions and life skills trainings targeting youth;
  • Support the Activity Coordinator in links with the Community Based Protection Network/Community Outreach Volunteers in gathering information and receiving referrals;
  • Conduct home visits to assess the living conditions of the cases;
  • Facilitate focus group discussions and awareness sessions on child protection issues and the prevention of exploitation and abuse.  
  • Ensure working with community members to increase knowledge about key CP issues, and promote standards of care for conflict-affected children and IDPs;

Reporting

  • Provide daily updates on PSS activities and new cases assessed;
  • File, collect and report relevant information about the case, background, case plan, follow up and actions taken;
  • Assist in providing reports to the Activity Coordinator of case management and PSS activities on a weekly basis;
  • Collect project lesson learned and contributes to relevant advocacy platforms with local levels;
  • Undergo to regular case management audits by Protection Coordinator;

Coordination 

  • Participate in meetings and trainings in and outside the centres including case management meetings and case conferences;
  • Ensure well coordination with the different teams within INTERSOS, for internal referrals such as legal assistance, cash assistance or other services provided by INTERSOS
  • Commit to participate to any other task in order to achieve the project overall objective;
  • Always ensure confidentiality and conduct all activities respectfully and sensitively to beneficiaries and staff.

Qualification/level requirements

Minimum requirements

  • BA in social work – social sciences;
  • 2 years of professional experience working as a social worker in Yemen, in particular case management for CP;
  • Demonstrated familiarity with case management principles, standards and procedures, including relevant roll-out of SOPs for different protection typologies;
  • Demonstrable experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with different sectoral counterparts/referral pathways;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent computer skills (proven computer literacy);
  • Readiness to commit and adhere to the values, mission and vision of INTERSOS.
