Weapon Contamination Field officer

Purpose:

The Weapon Contamination (WeC) Field Officer implements directly responsible for implementation and monitoring of ICRC and YRCS WeC activities, in particular the Risk Education sessions. S/he is expected to be regularly in the field to give guidance and follow-up to the WEC Field teams, travelling regularly to  different governorates to  observe and coordinate risk awarness sessions. Additionally, the WEC Field Officer contributes directly to ensuring staff safety and the continuation of critical operations, helping vulnerable people and supporting National Societies in situations where conventional or non-conventional weapon contamination poses a hazard.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities 

Functional Responsibilities: 

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Leads the monitoring and follow-up of WeC activities in the field with the support of the WeC coordinator and WeC Field Manager.

  • Contributes to assessing and analysing the WEC situation in different governorates and areas and shares information on these subjects with colleagues.
  • From Field visits, the Field Officer collects and compiles WeC-related information and submits reports on the performance and impact of WEC activities,  especially risk education activities.
  • Contributes to building the capacity of the national authorities and National Societies on WEC activities, closely working with the teams and providing  on-site coaching.
  • Develops and maintains contacts with the authorities at local level.
  • Reports events and changes within the region that could have an impact on the ICRC's activities, thereby providing sound elements that help the delegation to set objectives and priorities.
  • Represents the WeC programme in internal and external meetings.

Certifications/Education Required 

  • Relevant degree from a university or technical college.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Excellent computer skills.

Professional Experience Required 

  • 2 years' work experience in WeC/mine action or a similar field.
  • Academically or professionally proficient in a technical WeC-related subject or pedagogics.
  • Previous experience with the ICRC or other humanitarian agency desired.
  • Knowledge of the ICRC/humanitarian work an asset.
  • Good knowledge of the geographic area assigned.
  • Excellent teaching and presentation skills.
