Muslim Hands works both directly and with partners to carry out shortand long-term projects in education, health livelihoods, WASH and emergency relief.

This an exciting time to join an international NGO with over 26 years’ experience across 52 countries. Muslim Hands Yemen is undergoing new and positive changes. We are building on the capacity of the office, looking to implement new and innovative projects alongside opening new fundraising channels. This role is seen as pivotal to the long-term vision for Muslim Hands Yemen.

Position: Health Officer

Reports to: Office Coordinator..

Location: Marib – essential travel is required to other areas of Yemen

Contract Type: FT ( six month with possibility of extension.)

SUMMARY:

The Health Officer will be responsible for managing and supervising all project health activities in the targeted district through managing the field project staff. He \ She will work under direct supervision of the Program Manager to whom regular reports and certain data should be submitted. The Health Officer will represent MH and actively participate in the coordination processes with Local Authorities, GHOs, SCMCHA and Clusters at the field level.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In collaboration with the Office Coordinator., daily organization and supervision of the project activities
  • Responsible for the planning of the team on the field each week.
  • Transmission of the weekly planning every week to the project manager and the weekly reports.
  • Responsible for the availability of the materials of the team for the field activities
  • Participation in required recruitment for field team roles
  • With the team, help ensure beneficiary identification, support and follow-up tools are relevant and utilized, supervision visits tool.
  • Supervise team activities and help ensure the quality of these:
  • Provide daily guidance and support to the teams under his/her direct supervision
  • Ensure the proper understanding by the teams of the tasks they should carry out and the objectives to reach
  • Identify and share with the Project manager the need of capacity building of his/her team
  • Members
  • Participate with the Office Coordinator for the organization of essential capacity building activities the project team under his/her direct supervision
  • Ensure that operational, administrative, supervision & logistics procedures are respected by his/her/her team members.
  • Prepare and conduct regular performance management/review of staff directly managed as per MH policies.
  • Encourage good communication between all members of the team
  • Work in close relationship with the PMs on technical aspects (challenges, “difficult” cases, review of the intervention modality, strategy…), on a regular basis
  • Follow up Human Resources and logistics
  • Identify any training needs of the field teams and relay these needs to the relevant District Supervisors and where relevant, support the Technical Officers to implement appropriate trainings
  • Work with the logistics department to organize efficient distribution for all items to be distributed to beneficiaries
  • Monitoring and Reporting
  • Ensure all field teams are making appropriate records of their activities with beneficiaries (beneficiary assessment and follow-up forms, referral forms, donation certificates, etc), and link this/her information with the data/monitoring in a timely manner
  • Ensure regular monitoring and reporting of the activities of the field teams for quality and efficiency and ensure appropriate response to the identified needs, with the Project Manager
  • Support the field teams to correctly complete all the required reporting (statistics, field activity reports, etc.)
  • Write regular (weekly, monthly) reports on activities and progress towards indicators as required
  • Collect/checking the weekly monthly reports from the District Supervisors and analyses the data before sending it to the PM.
  • Conduct regular supervision visits to the targeted HFs to ensure their compliance with standards and guidelines and the service provided by them. And to conduct building capacity/OJT for the team

Person Specifications Essential:

  • Experience working within Health and Nutrition project.
  • Advanced training/experience in IMCI/BeMONC and infection prevention.
  • Involvement in recent current or past outbreak preparedness and response efforts.
  • Experience leading the development and delivery of trainings, coaching and supervision of healthcare workforce.
  • Desirable:
  • Expertise in maternal and newborn health services
  • Experience working within the Ministry of Health
  • Demonstrated relationships with district and national stakeholders within and outside the government
  • Experience working in urban and rural settings
  • Strong ability to write clear and well-structured reports.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in public health, Nurse, Medical Family.
  • At least two years of experience in Health and Nutrition Projects.
  • Working experience with NGOs
  • Demonstrated experience in field monitoring and conducting surveys.
  • Experience in writing quality reports.
  • Excellent computer literacy with a full knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail and reporting in a timely manner.
  • Team work and Management skills.
  • Excellent English skills (verbal and writing).
  • Proposal writing
