Since its inception, it has implemented over 80 development interventions in 18 out of the 22 governorates of Yemen benefiting over 5, 500,000 people. As a result, the organization has established itself among the most effective civil society organizations in Yemen that are working on issues related to health, education, and WASH in support of women, children, and youth. Operating out of its Headquarters in Sana’a and its offices in Taiz and Aden, SOUL, provides critical educational, health, WASH, Nutrition, and Livelihood services to urban and rural communities. 

Job Information

  • Job Title:  WASH Engineer (1)
  • Location: Taiz (Al-Turbah).
  • Contract Type: Full Time.
  • Contract Duration: One Year.
  • Start Date: As soon as possible.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acquire experience in implementing activities in IDPs camps or camp-like sittings.
  • Be responsible for the technical part of facilities needs assessments and supervise teams and participate in the selection of target locations & facilities to be constructed/established in the project.
  • Be responsible for the design, establishment of work specifications, bills of quantities, drawings and quotations, follow-up, and evaluation of activities related to the construction/establishment of facilities such as latrines and temporary learning classes.
  • Ensure that recommended work is child-friendly and within the minimum SPHERE standard.
  • Planning, organization, and follow-up of the community mobilization in target communities on issues related to the construction/establishment and maintenance of the facilities.
  • Be responsible to establish the technical aspect of the internal purchase order and tender documents for the construction/establishment of the facilities.
  • Be responsible for the quality control of materials bought by SOUL and its subcontractors.
  • Site management: general supervision of contractors and SOUL staff under her/his management, ensuring the safety of construction sites for workers and beneficiaries and ensure community participation. Develop and implement safety standard checklists.
  • Validate the progress and quality of work of the contractors, and make the connection with the administration and logistics to ensure their payments.
  • To seek and obtain appropriate government sign-off on works at the critical stages; especially at the start and completion.
  • Verify that facilities construction/establishment works done by partners and contractors are carried out according to quality standards established by SOUL through quality checklists.
  • Plan and be responsible for the weekly reporting of data in order to follow up the standard project and strategic indicators (number of beneficiaries, number, and type of activities completed...).
  • Writing weekly reports and verbal reports whenever necessary to the line manager on updates and challenges, as well as coming up with feasible solutions to overcome challenges.
  • Ensure that construction works are integrated with hygiene promotion and community participation components, to ensure the high quality of the facilities constructed/established.
  • Ensure the integration of gender, child protection, environment, and other crosscutting issues to the design, implementation, and development of construction activities, and ensure that activities take into account the needs of specific groups and individuals, especially children, the elderly, and with disabilities.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • University Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Architecture, relevant disciplines, or equivalent field experience.
  • Two years of professional experience in project management. 
  • Willing to undertake regular field visits to other governorates.
