Protection Assistant – Information Management   

Duty Station [Aden -Yemen]

Who are we?

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. Using a protection of human rights framework, DRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by conflict. Programmers include protection, livelihood, food and NFI distribution, water and sanitation, and advocacy amongst others. DRC Yemen has been providing relief and development services in Yemen since 2008. DRC has mainly focused on refugees and migrants displaced by conflict and natural disasters.
DRC, through its specialized business unit, Danish Demining Group (DDG) aims to recreate a safe environment where people can live without the threat of landmines, unexploded ordinances and small arms and light weapons”. These goals can be effectively advanced through cooperation and joint action with other organization as well as with integration of operations and programs with its sister organization, DRC.

About the job:

Overall purpose of the role: 

Under the management of the Protection Specialist and the supervision of the Country Protection Officer – IM the Protection Assistant (information management – south) supports the protection team in conducting daily protection activities.
The Protection Assistant (information management – south) acts as the focal point for the protection in south Yemen for information management and s/he is responsible for keeping all beneficiary databases up to date with accurate information, providing accurate date to the quality and assurance team regarding targets reached and information for monitoring and evaluation activities.

Responsibilities: 

  • Support the protection team in keeping all protection north databases and tracking sheets up to date - in particular the south victim assistance, community centre registration, referrals/CM and legal databases/trackers, including collected data from teams in different field office/s in the south
  • Format and clear data collected and entered, highlight inconsistencies or errors in data collection
  • Under the lead of the Protection Officer - IM maintain excel databases and tracking sheets for different types of activities per project, including beneficiary and target trackers
  • Provide easy to read information with proper formatting, consolidation of data and maintain good information flows among teams on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Develop and maintain a monthly cumulative database for tracking beneficiaries reached under the different interventions
  • Keeping IPTT indictors tracker up to date for the South and share timely and accurate figures with the quality and assurance (QA) team when requested for donor reporting, and ensure that all sources of verification are cross-examined prior to reporting
  • Compile and enter beneficiary and project information into databases from regular collected (handwritten) registration   forms, when needed
  • Acts as protection south team focal point for QA team and share data to conduct PDMs 
  • Conduct analysis and a compile finding to provide well written and structured report, including PIM reports 
  • Contribute to developing a data protection protocol
  • Train the protection staff in data management 
  • Attend coordination and clusters meeting when requested 
  • Any others duties that may be assigned by line manager

About you

To be successful in this role you must have:

Experience and technical competencies:

  • University degree in computer science or a combination of relevant education and professional experience
  • 1–2-year experience/s in data analyses and data management
  • Excellent use of Microsoft Excel
  • Design Maps.
  • Excellent use of Power BI, OneDrive and SharePoint.
  • Previous experience working with humanitarian actors is a strong advantage
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and safety of clients at all times
  • Ability to discuss sensitive issues with respect and empathy

Education :

  • University degree in computer science or a combination of relevant education and professional experience 

Languages:

  • Arabic (fluent)
  • English (fluent)

We offer

DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract until August 2022, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work As soon as possible, and be willing and able to work in Aden. 

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment. This position will be placed at Band (I Non- Manager) and will be reporting to Protection Team Leader.
