JOB TITLE: Health and Nutrition Assistant
LOCATION: Lahj governorates, Yemen (Almadharebah district )
REPORTING TO: Health & Nutrition Officer, Health & Nutrition Manager
OVERALL PURPOSE
The role as Health & Nutrition Assistant is facilitates and assists Medair in the implementation of essential health and nutrition assistance to vulnerable and conflict affected communities in Yemen.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
To improve access to and quality of essential health and nutrition services to displaced population and acutely vulnerable communities in Yemen, with focus on Al Lahj governorates.
FUNCTIONAL LINKS
INTERNAL: Health & Nutrition Project Manager (HNPM), Health & Nutrition Manager, Security Focal Point, Health & Nutrition Officer, , Reproductive Health Officer, Community Health Officer, Referral Assistant, other members of the health and nutrition team, and project support team, comprising finance, logistics and HR
EXTERNAL: MOPHP, MOPIC, key community leaders and authorities, communities and beneficiaries, Health facility staff, UN agencies, other humanitarian actors, Health and Nutrition Cluster
Responsibilities:
GENERAL TASKS
- Uphold the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence
- Respect the Medair values at all times, both within and outside of working hours
- Know, understand, and comply with Medair internal policies and procedures
- Follow the Medair Security Plan and other relates policies and SOPs
- Adhere to Medair Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) handbook and regulations
- Be prepared to work in Aden and other Governorates of Yemen
SPECIFIC TASKS
Technical
- Assist the implementation of Yemen Minimum Service Package (MSP), management and supervision of Medair health and nutrition project in Lahj Governorates, in line with national guidelines and meeting Medair standards.
- Support the Health and Nutrition Project Officer with the oversight of all referrals within targeted districts and from district level to Lahj City and other locations identified as point of referral within Lahj Governorate Plan and roll out community health worker activities in targeted villages at secondary and tertiary levels
- Ensure that selected mode of transportation is suitable fort the patients
- Adhere to and follow Medair referral guidelines closely
- Coordinate day to day runnings of the health facilities.
- Oversee clinic data collection and input in line with requirements set by Media and/or external partners
- Increase the capacity building of health care workers though facilitating trainings in addition to on-site training at health facilities.
- Assist health and Nutrition Officer with coordinating closely with respective DHO and GHO departments as required.
- Support the Health and Nutrition Officer with any other program related duties as requested and required
Financial Management
- With overall supervision from health and nutrition officer, ensure that any activities requiring the handling of Medair money are carried out in line with Medair procedures and all paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
Communication and Coordination
- Represent Medair at relevant local level coordination meetings involving local authorities, communities, and other NGOs in the absence of health and nutrition officer/manager.
- In coordination with any relevant M&E staff, follow up referral concerns and issues raised through feedback or complaint mechanisms and conducting regular FGDs at community level.
- Develop and maintain appropriate communication structures with the assigned health and nutrition team, HN Project Manager and HN Manager, HN Officer and other relevant stakeholders.
- Report any security incidents or concerns to the Security Focal Point in Aden/ Lahj.
Quality management
- Assist in implementation of relevant policies and standards relating to health service delivery and referrals including Sphere and CHS standards, Ministry of Public Health and Population and donor guidelines and other good practice.
- Participate as requested in Medair internal workshops and distance learning sessions to keep up with changing trends, new guidelines and best practices.
- Assist in carrying out data collection for monitoring and evaluation purposes when needed.
Logistics
- With overall support from health and nutrition officer, assist the correct and timely ordering of all necessary medicines, supplies and equipment for the assigned health facilities and activities, ensuring minimum stocks are maintained and items are stored and distributed correctly.

WORK CONDITIONS
Position will be based in the Almadhariba district and Aden MEDAIR office , with field trips to each HF with the MT staff . The candidate will need to be flexible on time depending on the project needs.
The candidate should be from Almadharibah district
Regular working hours will be 08:00 to 16:30 with 30 minutes for lunch, but may require flexibility as the work dictates.
