Overall purpose of the role

Through its child protection programming, DRC works intensively with a locally-based Civil Society Organization (CSO), Child Protection Community Committees (CPCs) and other stakeholders to provide ongoing consultation, training and support on reporting on the six grave violations of children’s rights, other child protection issues, protection mainstreaming, humanitarian principals, and best practices to empower children and their communities to identify and respond to child protection concerns.   In addition, DRC provides support through protection funds, assistance with medical expenses, awareness raising and referrals

In this project, DRC is seeking funding to continue its work with local CSOs and CPCs in governorates in order to identify and respond to grave violations of children’s rights through the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism (MRM) and improve the protection of children by building the capacity of local communities and providing critical medical and protection assistance to the most vulnerable conflict affected children.   

Geographic scope: Country (Yemen)                                                                                                                         

This role has an area focus and ensures compliance to DRC procedures and guidelines within the area. The role contributes to the development of area strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The role provides support and/or technical guidance to base operations

Main responsibilities 

  • Identify, select and verify, in accordance with established eligibility criteria, the most vulnerable for further assistance. 
  • Support and monitor local partner CSOs, community volunteers, community-based committees and/or other stakeholders.
  • Follow-up on all referrals and document outcomes.
  • Follow weekly work plans for the activities making sure to mainstream protection and comply with humanitarian standards.
  • Maintain a daily presence at the program sites to implement the program, identify any concerns and obtain beneficiary feedback.
  • Document, through pictures and stories, the impact of the program.
  • Ensure that any beneficiary feedback, concerns or issues are addressed through the appropriate mechanisms.
  • Provide weekly updates to the Protection team leader.
  • Follow given work plans and guidance
  • Comply with DRC’s Code of Conduct, program requirements and operational policies at all times and report any concerns through the appropriate mechanism.
  • Any other duties as required by the supervisor.

Required experience and competencies

  • A minimum of one year of experience working with INGO or UN agency or similar experience.
  • Familiarity with and acceptance in the local community
  • Experience working with local communities and community leaders
  • Willingness to be placed and work in the field as assigned
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles
  • Organizational, time-management and documentation skills
  • Ability and willingness to be a team player

Essential qualification

  • University degree.        
  • Excellent skills in MS Word, Excel, and     PowerPoint
  • Good proficiency in English

Languages: (indicate fluency level)

  • Good English language (written and spoken)
  • Excellent report writing skills including editing the work of others
  • Fluency in Arabic language (written and spoken)
