Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and Area Managers, the Health and Nutrition Officer will dedicate 100% (80% in field locations, 20% in RI office and coordinating with authorities) of his/her time leading, coordinating and ensuring the high-quality implementation of project nutrition and cash for nutrition activities. The Health and Nutrition Officer will oversee coordinating closely with all stakeholders and beneficiaries in the targeted governorates and ensure the appropriate implementation of project activities in the field. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • The Health and Nutrition officer is responsible for overseeing healthcare activities for RI supported health facilities in locations of interventions 
  • Responsibilities will include day to day support to health facilities, monitoring of activities, report drafting, coordination with GHO and DHO authorities as well as close collaboration with health facility staff and Project coordinator 
  • The Health and Nutrition officer role will have no line management responsibilities but reports to the Project coordinator 
  • The position will be based in the field, with regular trips to RI’s Health and Nutrition programs 

Coordination 

  • In collaboration with the Project coordinator to plan and implement health activities, ensuring that the health and nutrition programs utilize standardized protocols, policies and guidelines as outlined by the Ministry of Public Health and Population
  • In close collaboration with the Health facility in-charge ensure daily delivery of health services at the supported health facilities.
  • Oversee implementation of mental health activities including providing training and monitoring management of psychotropic medicines.

Supply Chain

  • Coordinate with Project coordinator and RI supply chain teams to support a patent medical supply chain.
  • Ensure effective supply chain management, supporting proper stock inventory and storage systems at supported health facilities 
  • Monitor the distribution of medical supplies including pharmaceutical and coordinating with MoPHP pharmaceutical assistants to develop and report the monthly consumption.
  • Ensure daily/weekly drug consumption is tracked and reported timely
  • Support and ensure rational drug dispensing at supported health facilities 

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Collaborate with RI MEAL team in collecting and responding to beneficiary’s feedback.
  • Participate in implementation of RI quality benchmarks including conducting quarterly quality assessments.
  • Participate in quarterly data audit and reflection and work with health facility in-charges to improve data quality and use data for decision-making.
  • Coordinate with the HF data entry officer and facility in-charges for timely submission of the monthly HF reports.
  • Plan and implement quarterly RI-local authorities’ joint supervision and ensure reporting, development and execution of the health facility-based action plans.

Community Health 

  • Coordinate with the MoPHP CHVs supervisors for implementation of community-based activities such as CHVs program, Mother to mother support groups, male forums and community midwifery.
  • Support CHVs to collect and track community health data
  • Coordinate with district surveillance officers to ensure disease surveillance and rapid response activities are implemented in RI supported areas.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree Medicine/Psychology/Nursing
  • Minimum 1 years of previous experience in Health and Nutrition programming with NGOs.
  • Must be excellent written English and ability to write good quality reports. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Self-motivated, results-driven and excellent sense of organization.
  • Strong team management skills and ability to relate to and effectively motivate staff.
  • Ability to represent RI in high level meetings with donors and local government.
  • Ability to travel as required within Yemen; ability to live in remote and isolated environments.
  • Sense of neutrality and ability to work across Yemen, in cooperation with all sides of the conflict.
