Job Description

JOB TITLE: MEAL Assistant
LOCATION:  Al Dhale’e 
REPORTING TO: MEAL Assistant 

OVERALL PURPOSE:

To support the MEAL Senior Officer and MEAL activities, including data entry and data analysis, and to monitor project objectives. Moreover, to strengthen accountability systems to ensure that support is extended to all beneficiaries. The MEAL Assistant will also support in strengthening the capacity of Medair project staff in monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning.

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

In Yemen, Medair are working in the sectors of health, nutrition, and WASH. Medair support primary health care facilities and community nutrition programming. This position will support health, nutrition, and WASH projects on static and community programming.
    
FUNCTIONAL LINKS 

  • INTERNAL: MEAL Senior Officer, Project Managers, Health and Nutrition Advisor, WASH Advisor, Regional MEAL Advisor, Project Officers, Project Assistants, Medair support teams
  • EXTERNAL: Beneficiaries, Local and International NGOs, Relevant UN agencies, Community Leaders, Local authorities/DHO, Health facility staff, Community volunteers

Responsibilities:

GENERAL TASKS      

  • Uphold the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence
  • Respect the Medair values at all times, both within and outside of working hours 
  • Know, understand, and comply with Medair internal policies and procedures
  • Follow the Medair Security Plan and other relates policies and SOPs
  • Adhere to Medair Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) handbook and regulations
  • Be prepared to work inAl Dhale’e

SPECIFIC TASKS    

  • Work with the project team in AL Dhale’e, collecting data from the field as per the monitoring plan
  • Follow up proactively with the programme team and management to ensure MEAL data is collected at agreed intervals
  • Assist in conducting baseline and end line surveys, verifications, DDM, PDMs, observational monitoring, exit interviews, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews; ensuring that quality data is collected from the field
  • Handle feedback mechanism data, logging beneficiary feedback from SMS, WhatsApp, paper form, and ensuring that complaints and suggestions are followed up on by the project team
  • Supervise casual labourers in collection of data
  • Enter gathered data in a prescribed format, provided by the MEAL Senior Officer, normally in Word or Excel formats
  • Perform analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, producing graphics and summaries, leading to dashboards and draft reports with presentation the results of the analysis
  • Proactively provide support and training to programme teams
  • Submit data and lessons learnt to the MEAL Senior Officer for donor reporting

OTHERS    

  • Any other reasonable duties related to the above areas

VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant field

Higher level degree in MEAL

WORK EXPERIENCE

At least 1 year Monitoring and Evaluation professional experience

Survey and data handling experience

Competence in writing reports in English

INGO experience, preferably in Health, Nutrition or WASH and an MEAL Assistant

 

LANGUAGES

Excellent in Arabic, good command of English (written and spoken)

 

IT

Microsoft Office programmes

Excel and databases

 

Experience in using HIS

Experience in using QlikView

Experience in GIS mapping

Experience using KOBO and ODK

Previous supervisory experience

WORK CONDITIONS: 

Position will be based in the Medair Al-Dhale’e Office, with field trips outside the city. 

Regular working hours will be 08:00 to 16:30 with 30 minutes for lunch but may require flexibility as the work dictates.

SALARY

According to Medair standard salary scale

JOB COMMITMENT:

  • TYPE OF CONTRACT: Fixed Term Contract
  • PLANNED START DATE:  August 2022
  • TRAINING:  As required
  • DURATION OF COMMITMENT: 12 months
