BCHR is a leading national non-governmental humanitarian agency with a global mission to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities. BCHR is a non-profit and non-governmental organization aiming to provide health, nutrition, food security and protection services as a humanitarian response to the escalating socio-economic situation in Yemen since 2015.

About the Job:

The Community Mobilizer Under the direct supervision of project Manager, the Community Mobilizer will perform a wide range of duties starting with initiating and developing an awareness and promotion process of the newly established project and the goal and objectives it aims to achieve. In addition, the CM will be closely linked to the targeted communities and therefore works as a dual communication channel between the project and the community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To mobilize communities and NGOs to identify and meet community needs. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Map out targeted communities to identify volunteers, community leaders, leading NGOs and businesses, schools, health centers, youth centers and governmental institutions and other assets.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, surveys and need assessments
  • Participate in the design of the community mobilization strategy and come up with a workable implementation plan within the BCHR time-frame
  • Mobilize targeted communities in the targeted governorates to engage them in an open dialogue of selection, prioritization and community needs assessment
  • Assist in implementing the action plans identified and agreed by the communities according to the guidelines and schedules set by the BCHR's communities engagement strategy.
  • Identify and follow up with other partners/stakeholders to address community needs.
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating community meetings/Workshops in each of the targeted communities
  • Assist in the design process of implementation and follow up of community projects.
  • Prepare and conduct training and learning tools/materials for communities and/or other trainers.
  • Identify training needs of communities and translate them in simple training courses which help communities to self-assess their current situation and identify possible solutions which can be potentially taken on by the BCHR implementation plan.
  • Prepare written reports, briefing papers, short-hand notes in English documenting the intervention sessions and training conducted highlighting results achieved and challenges to overcome.
  • Assist in Providing technical support to NGOs applying for grants under BCHR;
  • Assist prospective grantees in preparing responsive applications
  • Organize and facilitate capacity building interventions
  • Attend meetings with partners and stakeholders
  • Maintain and prepare photos and reports on all sessions, meetings and site visits
  • Maintain a good relationship with the government institutions 
  • Ensure that BCHR communications materials (e.g., banners) are visible and present in all events, training, ceremonies, etc.
  • Submit required reports on daily basis.
  • Participate and engage in any BCHR training and meetings as requested by supervisor;
  • Work with gender team to ensure effective integration and mainstreaming of gender into all program activities.
  • Track project development throughout the target area.
  • Adhere to all GC administrative procedures and policies.
  • Collect data from field teams and prepare summarized reports for Program Management;
  • Assist with general program operations and field-based activity.
  • Liaise with and support key program staff to ensure that the program is running effectively and making the best use of project resources.
  • Any other tasks assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent communication and engagement skills (both verbal and written) with an operational knowledge of Microsoft office.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management.
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of discretion

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A degree in Sociology, Social Work or a related field, with significant course components in either community development, social work, communications, or post-secondary education and training with significant prior experience.
  • 2-5 years’ experience in community development and/or mobilization, demand-driven projects, participatory planning and rural/community development.
  • Effectively coordinate with district, governorate and national authorities BCHR activities

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate and respond in English is required.
