Job Description

JOB TITLE:   Movement Tracker and Support Operator
REPORTING TO: Country Director


Working as an important member of a diverse team who are committed to serve the world’s most vulnerable with practical and compassionate care, the Movement Tracker and Support Opertor is responsible for tracking the movements of Medair teams travelling throughout Aden, Lahj, and Al Dhale’e, reporting any security incidents to the Country Director and Senior Security and Liaison Officer, supporting the security and liaison team as required, providing support to the information technology (IT) team, and filling staff gaps as needed.


Medair is operating in Aden, Lahj, and Al Dhale’e. Integrated responses include provision of primary health care and nutrition, with a particular focus on children and mothers, and WASH. 

  • Internal:  Country Director, Deputy Country Director, project team, support team, Al Dhale’e Security and Liaison staff, Senior Security and Liaison Officer, Liaison Assistant, IT Officer
  • External:  Potentially other NGOs, local authorities, security forces.


General Tasks      

  • Uphold the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence
  • Respect Medair values at all times, both within and outside of working hours 
  • Know, understand, and comply with Medair internal policies and procedures
  • Follow the Medair Security Plan and other related policies and SOPs
  • Adhere to Medair Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) handbook and regulations

Radio Operator Tasks    

  • Manage the Movement Tracker saved on Box. Ensure all the correct information is provided for each trip including telephone numbers, vehicle number, driver, team leader, passengers, and phone numbers.
  • Ensure teams are calling/texting every hour.  
  • Follow up missed calls in a timely manner, escalating to team leaders, Senior Security and Liaison Officer. 
  • Manage the tracking phone ensuring it has phone credit and is fully charged.
  • Hand over the tracking phone to the Country Director or Deputy Country Director at the end of the working day and over the weekends. 
  • Avoid sharing sensitive or confidential information over the communication channels. 
  • Report any incidences to team leaders, the Senior Security and Liaison Officer, and the Country Director.

Liaison Tasks    

  • Support the security and liaison teams as needed. This may include following up on visas, work permits, and residency permits, and meeting passengers at the airport.

IT Tasks    

  • Installing and configuring appropriate software and functions according to Medair standards
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot IT problems and issues as they occur and provide a temporary solution or a work-around until a permanent solution can solve an issue.
  • Manage issues related to wireless network configurations, LANs/WANs/WLANs, routers, and firewalls/
  • Test equipment and support internal and external events where IT support is required.

Quality Management    

  • Promote and use the Medair e-library and other operating procedures, ensuring that all standardised formats are used and guidelines are followed
  • Review compliance of the country programme security set-up with Medair’s policies and procedures

Role Qualifications:

Work experience

Security management experience, preferably in an NGO setting. IT experience in a company or NGO setting.

Security management experience in an insecure environment


Good English (spoken and written)

Excellent Arabic (spoken and written)

Willingness to improve language skills, spoken and written


Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook, Google Earth. Further IT skills as listed above.

Knowledge of mapping/GIS software

Previous use of GPS devices

  • Position will be based in the Medair Aden Office.
  • The candidate will need to be flexible on time depending on the project needs.
  • Standard working hours will be 08:00 to 16:30 with 30 minutes for lunch.
  • SALARY: According to Medair standard salary scale
