Position: Child Protection Officer

Location: Hodiedah

Grade: 4b

Contract Length: As per the budget

The Opportunity:

The Project Officer oversees and technically supports the direct implementation of Child protection project in Hodaidah

Reports to: Child protection Coordinator

Reporting toproject assistants  

Key Areas of Responsibilities: 

  • Planning and Implementation:
    • Develop and oversee implementation plans for the Child Protection project in Hodeidah, ensuring timely delivery and quality.
    • Collaborate with the Coordinator to create detailed project plans and budgets, adhering to Save the Children's (SC) standards.
    • Support project assistants in their weekly work plans and performance reviews.
    • Contribute to planning field visits and transportation plans.
    • Actively manage project sites, volunteers, and daily activities at community Centers/child-friendly spaces (CFS).
    • Ensure activities are appropriately planned, delays are documented, and solutions are identified.
    • Conduct regular monitoring visits to assess project progress and identify areas needing support.
    • Work with and coordinate with project assistants to manage and supervise daily work activities at the Community Centers/CFS.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:
    • Implement MEAL systems and ensure proper use of agreed-upon tools.
    • Conduct regular field monitoring visits and report findings to the CP Manager and CP Coordinator.
    • Conduct QLE assessments and report back to the Project Coordinator.
    • Contribute to draft end-of-project reports and provide timely activity reports.
    • Prepare progress reports with statistical and narrative information.
  • Coordination and Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with all stakeholders (volunteers, CPAs, SWs, etc.) to effectively monitor the Child Protection program's impact.
    • Coordinate with other SC sectors to ensure integrated programs.
    • Work closely with the community in forming and supporting Child Protection Committees.
    • Cooperate with CPC, volunteers, and MoSAL social workers to implement CFS activities.
    • Coordinate with stakeholders for better intervention & referral mechanisms.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Support mobilisation of communities and target groups to participate in planned CP and MHPSS interventions.
    • Ensure all activities are coordinated among different SC inter-sectors providing services in the Community Centers/CFS.
    • Ensure the Community Centers/CFS is appropriately equipped and safe for various activities.
    • Monitor progress, quality, and control of Community Centers/CFS deliverables.
    • Support the development and implementation of a community mobilization plan with the Coordinator and Case Management Officer.
    • Work with children, community leaders, and colleagues to develop key messages on Child Protection issues.
    • Ensure communities are regularly involved in all program phases.

II. Staff Support and Development

  • Provide technical and operational support to project assistants and volunteers.
  • Conduct training for staff and volunteers as required aligned with relevant topics.
  • Ensure volunteers understand SC's Child Safeguarding policy and report any concerns.

III. General

  • Comply with all relevant SC policies and procedures.
  • Ensure information boards in each CFS are equipped with relevant materials on Child Protection, etc.
  • Contribute to needs assessments and incorporate results into action plans.
  • Design and plan campaigns, and assist with assessments and surveys as needed.
  • Organize training to improve the knowledge and skills of project communities and volunteers.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with community health volunteers to discuss program issues.
  • Support the dissemination of information about Child Protection services to communities.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor to develop SC's Child Protection program.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

QUALIFICATIONS 

Essential:

  • Qualified Education professional with experience for at least 3 years in implementing Child programs (preferably in an Emergency field).
  • Teaching/Training skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capacity to work with a team.
  • Capacity to work under pressure.
  • Computer skills in word and excel
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
  • Excellent English language skills.
