Position: Community Mobilization officer

Location: Aden/Lahj Office

Grade:4b

Contract Length: till Aug 2023 (with a possibility of extension)

The Opportunity:

Save the Children International (SCI) Yemen Country Programme has an annual budget of around USD 70 million and growing, working mainly on the humanitarian response to the ongoing conflict and its impact including more recently on the cholera outbreak. The SCI Yemen has over 700 staff and 1500 volunteers and works in nine governorates in the north and south of the country through seven field offices and two sub-offices in addition to the main office in Sana’a.The Community Mobilization Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing the community mobilization Plan and the strategy of CP, Edu, H&N and WASH activities for children and parents in Yemen, including age appropriate recreational and resiliency activities for children and psychosocial support activities for parents through the volunteers, mobile teams, Animators and community Based Networks.

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

General

  • Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • In collaboration with the CP coordinator and Education Coordinator the community mobilization and PSS officer is expected to develop community mapping tools (to identify Protection and Education Risks and community-based mechanisms/services in the targeted areas.
  • Oversee the community mapping exercise in the communities in an engaging module for the most marginalized and vulnerable children and adolescents in the targeted communities.
  • Coordinate and communicate with the acting stake holders including local authorities in Aden Lahj and Building the capacity of the community and the other stake holders in community mobilization, behaviours changes, and communication for development.
  • Prepare logistics, reporting and analysis of all trainings and workshops.
  • Prepare plans and budgets for all community mobilization activities and tailoring of virtual trainings in emergency situation when the accessibility to the communities and group sessions are hindered.
  • Prepare reports with statistical and narrative information on the progress of the community mobilization and the protection programming in the target communities for the supervisor.
  • Support the development of the CP and education campaigns and dissemination of advocacy messages through media and one to one.
  • Work closely with the community in formation of child protection, Community Based Protection Networks committees and parent-teacher associations (activation, capacity building, follow up and regular meetings)
  • Support the outreach child protection/ education activities and implement sessions to increase community participation through mobile teams of volunteers.
  • Support the inclusion of Girls out of school, children with disabilities and minorities in the different activities of the child protection/ education program.
  • Ensure that communities are regularly involved in all phases of the programming
  • Conduct specific child-focused activities for psychosocial well-being and building resilience of most vulnerable and at-risk children and adolescents by ensuring a variety of activities that include active games, sports, expressive/creative activities, life skills, educational activities.
  • Mobilize adolescent boys and girls to launch empowering activities that suit their interest, promote their psychosocial well-being and create an opportunity for their direct social engagement at community level.
  • Conduct awareness sessions on child protection issues and issues affecting the protection and well-being of children.
  • Establish and maintain positive and efficient relations with target beneficiaries, community members, humanitarian actors and all the other key stakeholders.
  • Prepare weekly activity schedule, and supervise volunteers and assistance to keep record of newly registered beneficiaries, fill beneficiaries’ daily’s attendance lists and other reports as required by the line manager and ensure accuracy and timely submission.
  • In collaboration with MEAL team, conduct participatory monitoring activities to collect beneficiaries’ feedback and opinions on the quality and satisfaction of activities.
  • Coordinates with other SCI sectors to ensure implementation of standardized Community and PSS activities and with other field offices as necessary.
  • Other assigned duties by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Social Sciences, business administration or any other related field.
  • 3 years’ experience in a similar post.
  • Protection / community development experience.
  • Training skills, ability to conduct trainings
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to represent Save the Children at meetings with government officials
  • Capacity to work with a team.
  • Capacity to work under pressure.
  • Computer skills in word, excel, PowerPoint.
  • Coordination skills.
