JOB LOCATION: Al-Mukha with regular field travel to the Dhubab, and Al-Khawkhah

ABOUT FMF:

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
The project aims to contribute to a favorable protection environment for refugees and asylum seekers in South Yemen by supporting refugee documentation, enhancing coordination with local authorities, providing comprehensive legal services, offering individual and collective response services for vulnerable individuals, promoting community-based protection mechanisms, and strengthening the resilience of persons with specific needs.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Law and Protection Officer is responsible for facilitating communication and collaboration with Local Authorities to ensure the effective implementation of activities, engaging in legal awareness sessions for Refugees and Asylum Seekers, conducting regular visits to refugees including those in detention facilities, advocating for refugee rights with Local Authorities, organizing field visits and assessments, providing individual counseling and referrals, updating service mapping for efficient referral mechanisms, and preparing regular reports.
POSITION DESCRIPTION/ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Regularly liaise and coordinate with Local Authorities, including meetings for smooth implementation.
- Participate in legal awareness sessions for Refugees and Asylum Seekers as well as police and local authorities and security establishments where relevant.
- Undertake regular follow-up visits to refugees; including in detention facilities in police stations when needed.
- Conduct advocacy sessions for the Local Authorities about the refugee's detention.
- Conduct field visits to meet with persons of concern conducting Household assessment.
- Conduct meetings and workshops/training for the local authorities.
- Detect, counsel, and follow up individual cases identified during assessment, and assess their needs for necessary and appropriate referrals to assistance.
- Regulatory support in updating Service Mapping to timely undertake referral mechanisms, including links with Service Providers and other stakeholders in the area.
- Produce weekly and monthly reports to share with the supervisor.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by the Project Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- A university degree in Law Human Rights, International Law, or a related field.
- 4 years of experience working with I/NGOs in Refugees protection, with prior project management experience.
- Flexible to field site travel and overnight stays in areas of intervention, and willing to learn quickly and follow technical guidance to adapt to project demands and achieve quality results.
- Ability and willingness to network with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Experience in providing training and support to local authorities, and a good foundation of monitoring and evaluation skills.
- Experience in supervising staff in challenging situations, carrying out awareness-raising sessions, protection monitoring, analyzing information provided, and drafting reports.
- Native Arabic and strong English skills are essential.
- Strong knowledge and skills of computers.
- Respect the confidentiality of data and information
- Ability to deal with heavy work pressure.
