  • Duration of Contract: 5 months / The cost of work is lump-sum, non-incapable and the employee liability does not end except with the closure of the project.

Background

The Humanitarian Development Program (HDP) is a nonprofit and independent NGO in Yemen. It focuses on improving the quality of Yemeni people’s life through well-planned and comprehensive projects in WASH, Education, Food security & livelihood Shelter, CCCM, Protection, Health and related activities that strengthen underserved communities in all parts of Yemen with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergencies.

Humanitarian Development Program (HDP) places human dignity at the center of its relief and development work. At the heart of the Program’s efforts to impact poverty and social justice. Vulnerable adults and children are particularly at risk of sexual exploitation and abuse. HDP defines the program’s commitment to the protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) of vulnerable adults, involving HDP Employees and Related Personnel. In recognition of the special vulnerability of children, also HDP affirms commitment to the welfare and protection from sexual exploitation and all forms of abuse of children, involving HDP employees and related personnel.
The Food Safety and Quality Officer is responsible for ensuring that all food prepared and distributed under the Healthy Kitchen Project meets local and international food safety and quality standards. These responsibilities include monitoring adherence to hygiene practices, conducting periodic inspections, and training staff to maintain high food safety standards. The Officer also works to enhance food quality and meal safety while ensuring that they are in line with WFP guidelines and the Human Development Program's regulations.

Summary of the project

The School Kitchen project aims to provide healthy and proper school nutrition for male and female students. The project targets 15,000 students in 20 schools in Taiz Governorate - Salah and Al-Mudhaffar Districts and is funded by the World Food Program (WFP) and partnership with Haeel Saeed Anam (HSA).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of Projects Manager, the Food Safety and Quality Officer, will undertake the following tasks:

Develop and implement food safety protocols and procedures in line with WFP standards and local regulations.

Conduct periodic inspections of sanitary kitchen facilities to ensure compliance with hygiene and food safety practices.

Monitor storage, handling and preparation processes to prevent contamination and ensure food safety.

Ensure that all ingredients and meals meet quality and safety standards before distribution.

Establish a quality assurance system to monitor meal production and ensure that they comply with the required food and safety standards.

Supervise the supply process to ensure that all food items comply with quality specifications and safety standards.

Analyze feedback from beneficiaries and stakeholders to identify areas for food quality improvement.

Training kitchen staff on best practices in food safety, hygiene and quality assurance.

Develop and deliver training programs for food handlers that focus on adherence to food safety standards.

Collaborate with local authorities, WFP representatives and other stakeholders to ensure that food safety measures are consistent with the overall project objectives.

Coordination with suppliers to ensure a continuous supply of high quality food ingredients.

Maintain comprehensive records of inspections, audits and corrective actions.

Prepare periodic reports on food safety and quality performance for internal use and for external parties, including WFP and project donors.

Follow up on updates to national and international food safety regulations and WFP guidelines to ensure continued compliance.

Identify gaps in food safety and quality processes and implement corrective actions to address them.

Perform any other tasks assigned by the direct manager.

II.    Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Public Health or related field.
  • Minimum 2-4 years experience in Food Safety, Quality Assurance or similar roles.
  • Preferably have knowledge of WFP food safety and quality standards and guidelines.
  • Familiarity with food safety management systems such as HACCP or ISO 22000.
  • Experimental working and commentary programs are food production.
