Background

The Society for Humanitarian Solidarity (SHS) is a nonprofit humanitarian NGO based in the in Aden, Yemen. It was founded in 1995.The SHS provides assistance to refugees and migrants who arrive in Yemen every year. The organization also assists the local community in Yemen. The NGO won the Nansen Refugee Award, dedicated by the UNCHR. SHS has partnerships with UNCHR, OCHA, and WFP

PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

The Monitoring Unit provides technical support to programs. The aim of the Monitoring Unit is to help quantify, analyze, and document the impacts and outputs of SHS’ programs including data collection, management, analysis, and report writing. 

The Monitoring Unit will: 

i)    Conduct surveys and routine monitoring activities to support SHS programs; 
ii)    Manage all program data, including information that is collected by programs and the Monitoring Unit; 
iii)    Provide reports and summary information to Program Managers and the Grants and Reports Officer, and 
iv)    Participate in other monitoring and evaluation activities including collaboration in field and program-based research.  

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Data Management Clerk will be responsible for the computer-based input of data collected by the Monitoring Unit. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

1.    Enters data collected from monitoring activities accurately and according to schedule. 
2.    Works daily on the computer primarily in Microsoft Excel. 
3.    Works with Monitoring Coordinator to track that program-based monitoring activities are being performed according to schedule.
4.    Works in collaboration with the Monitoring Coordinator to provide timely reports and data summaries.
5.    Conducts himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to SHS and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
6.    Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None

ACCOUNTABILITY:

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Monitoring Coordinator
WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Monitoring Officer(s), program teams

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in information or data management and processing field or its equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of previous experience in data management for humanitarian or development projects.
  • Management roles preferably in complex emergency programs for INGOs.
  • Applicable knowledge working with statistic databases.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience working on the computer using Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, is required. 
  • Skills in other programs, such as Access or statistical software packages, is also desirable.
  • Excellent skills using the computer keyboard (numbers and letters).
  • Good basic math skills are essential.
  • General knowledge of statistical principles is preferred.
  • Basic spoken English is a plus.
