GRANT AND PARTNERSHIP /DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

The Grants and Partnerships Department is responsible for developing and nurturing relationships with donors, funding agencies, and partner organizations to secure financial support and collaborative opportunities that align with the organization's mission and objectives. Through strategic grant writing, partnership development, and effective communication, the department aims to maximize resources and drive sustainable impact in line with the organization's goals. 

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Grants Officer works to implement fundraising strategies and manage grant acquisition operations for the organization. They are responsible for developing and executing strategic plans to increase financial support from potential donors, as well as analyzing funding opportunities and submitting grant applications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

1.    Develop Fundraising Strategies:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to attract funding from charities, governments, and corporations.

2.    Manage Donor and Partner Relationships:

  • Build and strengthen relationships with potential and current donors and partners.
  • Coordinate informational meetings and networking sessions to enhance communication and understand support requirements.

3.    Research and Opportunity Analysis:

  • Research new funding opportunities through partnerships with companies and institutions.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of funding opportunities and assess their alignment with the organization's goals.

4.    Grant and Partnership Proposal Submission:

  • Write and submit grant and partnership proposals professionally and persuasively.
  • Monitor the progress of submitted applications and projects to ensure compliance with all requirements.

5.    Coordinate Events and Meetings:

  • Organize and coordinate informational events and networking sessions with potential donors and partners.
  • Arrange official meetings with donor agencies to clarify project details and needs.

6.    Report Preparation and Performance Evaluation:

  • Prepare regular reports on fundraising efforts and evaluate their outcomes.
  • Assess the performance of strategies and initiatives and provide recommendations for improvement.

7.    Partnership Opportunity Analysis:

  • Conduct donor mapping to understand competitors, potential partners, and identify partnership opportunities.
  • Develop strategies to build strategic partnerships that enhance organizational goals.

8.    Marketing and Public Relations:

  • Collaborate with the Reporting and Media Departments to enhance the organization's image and market its capabilities.
  • Develop innovative and effective media content to increase awareness of the organization's activities and attract support.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for overseeing grant assistants or coordinators supporting the grant acquisition process, managing their workload, providing guidance on grant activities, and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

ACCOUNTABILITY: The Grants Officer is primarily accountable for developing and implementing effective fundraising strategies, ensuring grant compliance, maintaining stakeholder communication, and evaluating grant-funded project performance within the organization. 

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Head of Programme, Grant and Partnership Manager.

WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Project Manager, Programme Coordinator/ Officer, Finance Department, Field Officers and Data Management.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in fundraising or grant management, preferably in the humanitarian sector.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong relationships with donors.
  • Strong writing and editing skills and the ability to submit grant proposals effectively.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks in changing conditions.
