Location: AlHalimin, Lahj, Yemen
Duration: 12 months
Number of Positions: Multiple Volunteer Positions (Data Entry, Child Care, and Community Support)
Reports to: WGSS Coordinator / Project Manager
Job Summary:
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated volunteers to join the Women and Girls Safe Space (WGSS) team in AlHalimin, Lahj, Yemen. These roles focus on providing critical support for vulnerable women and girls in the community, enhancing the safe and effective delivery of services. Volunteers will assist with various key responsibilities, including data entry, case management, child care, and community engagement.
This position is ideal for candidates who have a strong commitment to humanitarian work, particularly for vulnerable groups, and are eager to gain experience in a safe space that empowers women and girls.
Objective of the Role:
The primary objective of this volunteer role is to support the WGSS team in delivering essential services and activities to women and girls. The volunteers will help maintain a supportive and welcoming environment, provide administrative assistance, and actively contribute to the well-being and empowerment of beneficiaries.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Data Entry and Receptionist:
- Data Collection: Assist with day-to-day data entry related to activities, statistics, and services provided in the WGSS.
- Data Verification: Ensure data integrity by reviewing and verifying entries, making necessary corrections to maintain accuracy.
- Database Support: Help maintain databases (e.g., Kobo, ODK) and ensure proper documentation of activities.
- Reporting: Prepare weekly and monthly data reports summarizing key information and trends related to services provided.
- Data Security: Ensure proper handling and storage of sensitive data in line with confidentiality protocols.
2. Child Care Support:
- Child-Focused Activities: Support the Safe Space supervisor in organizing and facilitating engaging and developmentally appropriate activities for children.
- Child Attendance: Track and record child participation in activities, ensuring accurate attendance records.
- Support for Children with Disabilities: Ensure inclusive participation by addressing the needs of children with disabilities.
- Parent Communication: Maintain regular communication with parents, keeping them informed about their children’s activities and well-being.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Provide regular updates to supervisors regarding children’s progress and the activities being implemented.
3. Community Engagement and Support:
- Beneficiary Assistance: Greet and support women and girls accessing the WGSS, providing them with information about available services and directing them to appropriate staff (social worker, protection officer, etc.).
- Program and Awareness Activities: Assist in organizing workshops, awareness sessions, and support groups that focus on empowerment, health, and safety.
- Community Outreach: Engage with the local community to raise awareness about the WGSS services, identify new beneficiaries, and ensure equal access for all.
- Administrative Support: Assist with scheduling appointments, managing activity logistics, preparing materials (flyers, posters), and assisting in general office tasks.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Contribute to monitoring and documenting activities, including providing regular updates and preparing reports as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Educational Requirements:
- At least a high school diploma or equivalent. A diploma in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Gender Studies, or a related field is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree is an advantage but not mandatory.
Experience:
- At least 1 year of experience in a community-based, humanitarian, or social services role.
- Previous experience working with vulnerable groups, particularly women and girls, is highly desirable.
- Experience in case management, child care, community outreach, or data entry is a plus.
Skills and Competencies:
- Communication: Strong skills in Arabic (mother tongue) and basic to moderate English (written and spoken).
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact empathetically with beneficiaries and engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Basic skills in Word, Excel, and other relevant software for reporting and data management.
- Knowledge: Understanding of gender-based violence (GBV), child protection, and humanitarian principles is highly desirable.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage tasks, and adapt to changing circumstances.
