Job Description

Job Title:  Protection Officer 
Reporting to: Shelter Program Manager 
Sector: Shelter Program
Location: Aden with visits to the field within project areas (Taiz)

NMO is a registered national NGO with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor No. 284. Our mission is to take the lead to empower communities in Yemen through humanitarian response and sustainable development programs in a professional way through effective partnerships. NMO started its activity in Yemen since 2012, and has been implementing projects in 5 sectors namely FSL, Education, WASH, Shelter, and Governance and skill-building.

NMO is looking for an efficient and qualified person to fill the post of Protection Officer to carry out the following tasks:

Tasks and Responsibilities: 

  • Adhere to the policies, regulations and procedures of the Nahda Makers Organization.
  • Planning protection mainstreaming activities and ensuring that the organization adheres to this principle in all interventions.
  • Preparing requests for protection and field visit plan and submitting them to the direct manager.
  • Preparing the reports and documents required for the payment of the daily  workers.
  • Working on developing mechanisms and activities for mainstreaming protection into the organization's interventions.
  • Entering and managing data for critical cases that require complete confidentiality in managing their data.
  • Developing and updating a database of service providers in the areas of the organization's interventions and strengthening relations with them.
  • Communicate with service providers, whether governmental organizations or institutions, to refer cases that require services not provided by the organization, and to follow up on these cases obtaining the required services.
  • Submitting statistical reports on the monitored cases, the cases that were referred, and the results of the referrals.
  • Provide technical assistance and advice to field operations on cash-based interventions in emergency and mass displacement situations.
  • Representing the organization in the protection cluster.
  • Follow up on Nahda Makers protection priorities while also ensuring that donor policies are followed. Highlighting the special needs of men, boys, women and girls.
  • Participate periodically in the various, workshops, meetings and related trainings.
  • The protection officer will be the focal point in communicating with the donor in areas related to the implementation.
  • Active participation in periodic meetings and meetings in the organization.
  • Participate in the activities of evaluating interventions and assessing the level of the organization's commitment to applying the principle of protection in its programs, including conducting interviews, focus groups, questionnaires, etc.
  • Maintaining confidentiality, security and protection of case data and ensuring the level of security in the system used.
  • Conducting frequent field visits to assess the level of availability of protection mainstreaming services.
  • Preparing the required reports and sending them to the line manager.
  • Archiving data and documents, paper and electronically, according to the archiving system used in the organization.
  • Invest in learning opportunities and resources and work on self-development of professional competence.
  • Raise suggestions and perceptions that would raise the level of performance in the organization and inform the concerned persons of any matters that might affect the integrity, impartiality and reputation of the organization.
  • Performing other duties related to the job field as requested by the line manager.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • University degree (Bachelor's degree).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with National or International NGO.
  • Experience in cash based intervention or protection project is an asset.
  • Report writing skills, Proficiency in English (Writing and Speaking).
  • Excellent representation, negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills. 
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office.
  • Ability to spend extended periods of time in field conditions. 
  • Solid planning skills and dealing with implementation challenges and finding solutions.
  • Problem solver and, hard working with ability to work under pressure.
