The IRC Yemen began its programs in October 2012. Since establishing its presence in the South of Yemen, in the Red Sea Coastal city of Aden, the organization has grown from just an implementing small project to handling large scale emergency and relief operations. Following the war which broke out in Yemen in March of 2015 and the humanitarian disaster, which was crafted by the same, IRC launched one an emergency response program in the southern governorates of Aden, Lahj, Abyan, Shabwah and Aldalea. Currently IRC Yemen is operating in eight governorates in the south and north of Yemen and Sana’a and Hodeidah in the North through direct programming and through local partnerships, in Health, WASH, Nutrition, Economic Recovery Development, Education, Child Protection, Gender and Women Protection and Empowerment.

Scope of Work:

Under the supervision of IRC Yemen WPE Response Officer and based in Khanfar - Abyan the WPE Adolescent Girls Program Assistant will be responsible for the implementation of adolescent specific activities in the Women and Girls Community Center (WGCC) or mobile team while working in close collaboration with the IRC team and local partners. She will be covering any activities related to adolescent girls.

Main responsibilities:

  • Mobilize adolescent girls in target locations to participate in psychosocial activities provided by the IRC, including emotional support groups, skills-building, non-formal education and recreational activities
  • Co-facilitate parenting skills curriculum with caregivers.
  • Collaborate with caseworkers and other WPE team members to ensure GBV responses are taking into account specific needs and vulnerabilities of adolescent girls and youth-friendly communication techniques are used
  • Support logistic implementation of the activities, including raising purchase requests, handling petty cash according to IRC’s policies, working to regular spending plans
  • Use agreed-upon monitoring and evaluation tools to supervise adolescent girls’ participation in activities and collect their feedback
  • Support and collaborate with local partner staff, including providing training on how to work with adolescent girls
  • Draft and submit regular weekly and batch end report 
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs
  • All IRC staff is required to carry out THE IRC Way Standards and the IRC country employment policies.

Requirements (Qualifications, Skills and Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, Psychology, Sociology or other related area.
  • Working knowledge of English language is preferable.
  • Minimum one-year professional experience in implementing GBV response programs. 
  • Excellent knowledge of the working environment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft word and excel. 
  • Personal qualities: Works well in and promotes teamwork, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible, able to handle pressure well.
  • strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Deep understanding of Gender Based Violence, women’s protection and empowerment in the context of Yemen

Work Environment
100% based in field sites in Abyan
