Job Description

Action Contre la Faim is an International Humanitarian Organization established in 1979 with the mission to save lives by combating hunger through prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition, in particular during and after emergency situations caused by conflict and natural disasters. Action Contre la Faim provides coordinated responses in nearly 50 countries including Yemen globally within 7 field of expertise which includes Nutrition and Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Food Security, Mental Health Care Practices, Gender and Protection, Advocacy, Risk and Disaster Management and Research.

ACF has been operational in Yemen since 2012 and is operational in 4 bases (Aden, Hodeida, Al khokha and Sanaa). The mission implements its activities which are centred on 3 sectors, Nutrition and Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support and Protection (MHPSS-P).

  • Job Title:  Community Mobilizer  (Female)
  • Location:  Aden - Tor Albaha.
  • Contract duration: 9 Months with possibility of extension 
  • Basic monthly salary (taxable): 767$ to 958$ based on experience salary calculation (excluding other benefits offered by the organization)
  • Direct Line Manager: Project Officer – Nutrition and Health

Position Summary

Overall responsible for community outreach activities to ensure adequate detection, referral of malnourished and sick children and PLWs including community mobilization

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Objective 1:  Strengthen community based screening, detection and referral; community mobilization and sensitization and community engagement 
  • Objective 2: Strengthen mother’s engagement at community level by supervising the work of mother of mother support groups.
  • Objective 3: Reporting and collaboration with the health and nutrition units.
  • Objective 4: To work in any mobile team that may be having a gap.
  • Objective 5: To support the FSL team in conducting the community engagement activities.

TASK & RESPONSIBILITIES

Objective 1:

  • Work with community volunteers/leaders to update village population, identify remote areas for mobile sites
  • Support project officers in updating village population, number of volunteers under each facility, tracking training of volunteers 
  • Sensitize the communities within all the villages under Catchment area; ensure activities understanding and support from communities.
  • Ensure the proper identification of Community Health Volunteers by communities in close collaboration with Health workers
  • Support communities in identifying Community Health Volunteers if not available.
  • Participate in elaborating training   modules   and   suitable   teaching materials on detection and referral of acutely malnourished children; sick children and PLWs
  • Support and follow up CHV in organising their activities.
  • Ensure regular active screening sessions in relation with Health and nutrition unit schedule and support CHVs in conducting them.
  • Ensure regular awareness sessions are conducted and support CHVs in providing them to communities.
  • Support CHVs in following up cases at home (new admissions, defaulters, etc…)
  • Support CHVs in providing referral tickets to identified community members in line with protocols.
  • Support CHVs in producing screening and awareness monthly report.
  • Provide CHVs with adequate work material (CHV kit) and reporting/referral formats.
  • Support communities in identifying Mothers for the mother to mother support groups
  • Supervise the mother to mother support group sessions
  • Ensure massages by mothers are clear and well lead
  • Follow up the Mothers and support them to produce the monthly reports

Objective 2: 

  • Ensure of follow up of referred cases with the health and nutrition units team.
  • Ensure transmission of information from the health/nutrition unit to the CHV for cases to be followed up (defaulters, death, etc,)
  • Reinforce the link between community volunteers, health/nutrition units by organizing frequent review strategy/update of activities meeting.
  • Produce Regularly accurate reporting weekly and monthly list of the mobilized villages, and the reports of the CV referrals as correct and wrong referrals
  • In collaboration with the team leader, establish proper referral and reporting mechanism for CVs. 

Additional Responsibilities

  • This job description is not intended to be all inclusive and the employee will also perform other related tasks as required and responsible for reporting and communication of progress and achievement of the specific assigned task;
  • Conduct all duties in a professional manner in accordance with ACF Safeguarding Policy, Code of Conduct, Internal Rules and Regulations, mandate and charter of principles including promotion of gender equality.
  • The employee is also required to remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills to promote strong safeguarding practices, and conduct duties in a manner consistent with the mission Safeguarding Policy.

Required Qualification, Skills and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor in any relevant subject with experience working in community based programs
  • Or/ Professional certificate in Community development or other closely related disciplines with minimum 1 year experience in community based programs

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL

  • Good understanding of the local context is necessary
  • Experience in working with communities is a plus
  • Experience in working with community volunteers and training of volunteers is required
  • Fluent in Arabic and local language of the working area
  • Attention to detail and adherence to systems;

PREFERRED

  • Experience in detection and referral of acutely malnourished children using MUAC and Odema is preferred
  • Experience in facilitating community group discussions/sensitization session  is preferred
  • Keen to learn and work with communities 
  • English  language would be an  asset
