Organizational Setting

FAO's office for Yemen is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing countrywide food, agriculture and rural development priorities under Yemen. It develops and maintains relations with the relevant Ministries at country level. This position is based in FAO Representation in Sanaa, Yemen. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

Reporting Lines

The Nutrition Program Coordinator will be under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Yemen, general supervision of Head of Programs and under the technical and direct supervision of the International Nutrition Officer.

Technical Focus

The Nutrition Program Coordinator- in close coordination with technical staff will ensure timely and effective implementation of Nutrition components in all FAO Yemen projects.

Tasks and responsibilities

- Lead the coordination of all nutrition interventions in the project, including coordination with other FAO departments implementing the project,

  • Promote understanding of key deliverables and strategies of the projects under the nutrition unit by various stakeholders (FAO Staff, project technical/ steering committees, line ministries at different level, technical staff etc.)
  • Prepare implementation work plan for Nutrition component activities, in consultation with technical team and ensure its timely implementation
  • Collaborate with other FAO departments in the implementation of the nutrition sensitive agriculture based interventions,
  • Liaise with technical officers and consultants to ensure timely delivery of Nutrition trainings to implementing partners, line ministries, beneficiaries etc. and ensure that all aspects of any nutrition trainings are well documented
  • Coordinate the supervision of IP’s work progress contracted by FAO through Letters of Agreement (LoA) in coordination with technical staff  of the unit

- Support to sectors nutrition coordination activities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with Ministry of Health, Department of Nutrition, Ministry of Agriculture and irrigation (MAI), UN, NGOs, donors, partners and other stakeholders, with the objective of raising public awareness of FAOYE and ensuring good co-operation and partnerships.
  • Represent FAOYE at nutrition cluster coordination, sector and bilateral meetings and with national and / or local government departments and any other relevant meetings or events.
  • Facilitates knowledge sharing, best practices, and dissemination of nutrition information in all relevant fora including the cluster system; SUN movement, MAI and MoPHP

- Provide technical support to nutrition teams, including the evaluation & impact analysis of the project and other FAOYE nutrition sensitive projects.

- Contribute to harmonization of the implementation approaches, coordination and cross linkages project activities under the nutrition unit 

- Support in development of nutrition data management process (data entry, cleaning and transfer) ensuring it is conducted to the highest technical level possible

- Perform other related duties assigned by the Supervisor

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in nutrition, nutrition policy, Public Health, Dietetics, food studies, food science, food technology, food engineering or other relevant fields;
  • At least 8 years working experience working on programmes supporting Nutrition sector in Yemen.
  • Extensive experience in project management and capacity development in Nutrition, Agriculture and livestock sector. 
  • Proficiency in standard computer software
  • National of Yemen
