PU-AMI’s Context & strategy:

Première Urgence - Aide Médicale Internationale (PU-AMI) is an international, non-profit, non-political, and non-religious humanitarian organization which aims to provide rapid global response to the basic needs of populations affected by humanitarian crises to help them regain independence and dignity. PU-AMI provides assistance to more than 6 million people throughout 24 countries, with more than 2,500 staff worldwide.
PU-AMI adopts an integrated approach, to identify and understand the full array of the needs of the people affected by crises. This innovative approach is at the core of every PU-AMI-supported projects, to better target and prioritize actions, stabilize and improve the situation of the most vulnerable groups. It allows the teams to take all aspects of a problem into account, to come up with an efficient combination of solutions, which will have a powerful and long-lasting impact on the affected populations. In this respect, the organization runs around 190 projects a year worldwide, most of which are focused on Health, Nutrition, Food Security, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Psychosocial Support, Education and Protection activities. 
In Yemen, PU-AMI is supporting 18 health facilities (Health Centers, Health Units and Therapeutic Feeding Centers) in four Districts in Hodeidah (Al Mighlaf, As Sukhnah, Al Mansuriyah and Al Qanawis), three Districts in Raymah (Bilad At Ta’am, Al Jabin and Mazhar) and two Districts in Taizz (Al Mokha and Mawza). PU-AMI’s operations are managed by two field offices in Hodeidah and Mokha cities, both supported by the Sana’a coordination office. PU-AMI recently established a second coordination office in Aden. 
PU-AMI is participating actively in clusters and sub-clusters (health; nutrition; food security and livelihoods; WaSH) and works closely with relevant government departments.

Overall objective

Under the technical supervision of the MHPSS Project Manager and the line management of the TFC medical team leader, the MBC Nurse will ensure the provision of activities within the mother and Baby Corner in the OTP/SC/HF. This include performing the mother & child activities, to collaborate with health/nutrition staffs in order to integrate MBC activities within the HF/SC and to monitor and report on activities on regular bases to the base office through the medical officer and coordination team through the MHPSS manager.

Tasks and Responsibilities

1.    Promote, protect and advocate for optimal Health and Nutrition practices through the implementation of MIYCN activities.
2.    Perform the activities within the MBC with the mothers and the babies
3.    Contribute to the development of  MBC activities and their inclusion within the SC/HF with the close support of MHPSS Project manager
4.    Ensure the day-to-day monitoring of the overall activity and provide regular reports to Base and coordination offices. 
5.    Take active part in capacity building as well as supervision sessions led by the MHPSS Manager. 
6.    Entertain children and mothers at the MBC centre and ensure psychological support.

Specific Goals and Related Activities

1.    Implementation of the Mother and Baby Corner’s activities

  • Welcome the beneficiaries and provide systematic individual consultation with new beneficiaries.  
  • Provide day-to-day psychosocial activities (including mother & child group activities and provide PFA & PSS if needed)
  • Participate actively in the design of MBC activities according to beneficiary needs and feasibility.  

Perform the activities in accordance to international Care Practices standards: Baby bath, baby massage, playing session with mother and infants, etc. 

2.    Monitoring and Reporting 

  • Daily data collection and monitoring of beneficiary participation and satisfaction at the MBC
  • Regular meetings with MHPSS Project Manager for technical support
  • Provide progress activity report to base office and coordination on a regular basis.

3.    Communication

  • Ensure the MBC visibility within the OTP/ SC/HF
  • Ensure the promotion of MBC activities toward beneficiaries.

Update line manager or technical manager on key challenges and suggest solutions to same.
