About YDN:

Yemeni Development Network for NGOs is a leading non-profit and non-governmental organization operating in Yemen and was established in 2003. YDN was mainly established in response to the urgent need for a specialized entity for building the capacity of the community social organizations, and to ensure their active participation and proper fulfillment of their responsibilities. In 2014, YDN was obliged to utilize its accumulated experiences and sophisticated resources to respond to the devastating humanitarian situation developing as a result of the ongoing conflict. This was interpreted in the provision of life-saving services through the implementation of various humanitarian projects in the most affected areas optimally by including local communities in decision-making and reflecting their opinions, as possible, in the interventions.

Job Purpose:

Assist in developing budgets, monitoring transactions, and preparing financial reports. Managing records and receipts. Reconciling daily, monthly, and yearly transactions and preparing balance sheets.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the day-to-day external & internal payments (checks & transfers) before submitting for signature, in accordance with YDN Accountancy & Cash Management Policy.
  • Make and record all payments out of cash, recording all advances issued and returned.
  • Review all documents submitted for the payment to ensure proper procedures have been followed before releasing the payment.
  • Carrying out as needed daily cash management and cash count as per YDN Financial, and administrative procedure.
  • Provide information about cash-on-hand and bank balances for any currency upon request by authorized staff.
  • Consolidate the necessary document for the month-end accounting close process.
  • Maintenance of all accounting records, ensuring that records are complete, accurate, and safeguarded.
  • Ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded in the cash, and bank books in a timely manner, and are accompanied by relevant supporting documentation.
  • Receive and check the eligibility of invoices submitted for payment (compliance with purchase voucher, required information).
  • Codify electronic entries and physical proof of payments.
  • Ensure all documents are sent to the finance management on a monthly basis, after being archived according to YDN Accounting/Finance Procedures.
  • Prepare the monthly closer and the necessary adjustments after consulting with the Finance Manager.
  • Monitoring procedures are in place to ensure that there is a Zero tolerance approach to bribery, fraud, and corruption.
  • Keeping & Review Files documents & maintaining archives according to YDN filing system and backup data.
  • Prepares documents for audits.
  • Assures registration of all new entries to the lease/equipment's/agreements.
  • Ensure all financial disbursements to staff/suppliers/vendors/implementing partner(s) and expenses made thereon are properly recorded in Cash Book and Bank Book.
  • Contribute to programs budget planning and preparation by presenting thoroughly researched information for planning of financial resources.
  • Track and report on programs and operational financial resources.
  • Any other assignment requested by the Finance Manager and Office Manager.

Qualifications And Requirements:

Certifications/Education Required:

1.    Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Accountancy or similar.

Required Experience and Competencies: 

1.    Minimum 1 year of bookkeeping and accounting experience, working with similar NGOs is preferable.
2.    Ability of good speaking and writing in English and Arabic.
3.    Experience with various accounting software
4.    Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.)
5.    Sound knowledge of international donors’ procedures.
6.    Able to handle work pressures well, and strong communication skills.
7.    Take charge of self-development and take initiative.
