Job Title: Health and Nutrition Officer
Job Status: 6-month contract, Full Time
Job Location: Taiz - Yemen

Job Purpose:
The Health and Nutrition Officer will work closely with the MG Programme Manager and provide support on direct implementation and coordination of the designated field projects. The Health and Nutrition Officer will play a key role in ensuring MG programmes meet set quality standards as well as coordinate with relevant GHO departments; organise in close collaboration with GHO and MoPHP technical trainings for health workers; be responsible that national and international guidelines are followed at clinics; assist with the roll out of MG health and nutrition activities, provide supervision and on job training of health and nutrition staff, support with reporting and evaluation; coordinate and collaborate with other stakeholders and agencies as needed
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- - Support the Health and Nutrition Programme with the roll out of the new health and nutrition services, including planning of proposed and monitoring of the health and nutrition services (PHC, CMAM, EPI, RH) and identifying suitable health and nutrition staff in coloration with MoPHP
- - Coordinate and collaborate with GHO and GHO relevant sub departments, participate in sectorial coordination meetings including attending regular sub cluster meetings
- - Oversee the routine collection of data, and prepare numeric reports as required by MoPHP and health and nutrition clusters.
- - Oversee case finding and referral procedures, and ensure they are in line with national and international guidelines
- - Adhere to international and national health and nutritional guidelines, and be committed to meet set minimum quality standards.
- - Work in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and MG logistics officer to ensure that sufficient supplies are available at targeted clinics.
Training
- - In close collaboration with GHO and MoPHP organise technical training for targeted health workers (IMCI, CMAM, CHV, MiSP trainings)
- - Provide support and training for field health and nutrition officers
- - Conduct job training ensuring services are provided in line with CMAM, IYCF, IMCI, ANC, PNC and outbreak disease guidelines.
- - Provide in collaboration with DHO and GHO refresher training for Community Health Volunteers in line with national guidelines.
Supervision and Management
- - Line manager the HWs in the targeted HFs, ensure that they follow technical guidelines etc.
- - Provide on bi-weekly basis technical support and frequent clinical supervision of all aspects of CMAM and PHC programme activities
- - Ensure that proper assessment, classification and referral are done of patients presenting with danger signs and symptoms of outbreak diseases, in line with national case definitions.
- - Ensure that MUAC screening and referral is done correctly by community volunteers.
- - Ensure that correct records are maintained at services sites.
- - Prepare monthly numeric and narrative reports as required. Up-to-date programme information is kept available and reports prepared to support the Health & Nutrition programme by the effective implementation of integrated monitoring system.
- - In close collaboration with the Data entry, collect monthly, weekly, bi weekly reports/data from the HFs and ensure all reports are collected and submitted in time. Ensure all the HWs are available in the HFs and provide the services, and signed daily time sheet
Supervise team activities and help ensure the quality of these:
- - Support the PM in coordination with GHO/DHO.
- - Ensure that donations certificates are provided for all the donations.
- - Ensure the donations are made according to the strategy (quality and quantity) and the needs identified.
- - Work in close relationship with the PMs on technical aspects (challenges, “difficult” cases, review of the intervention modality, strategy…), on a regular basis
Follow up Human Resources and logistics
- - Identify any training needs of the HWs and identify the appropriate trainings
- - Work with the logistics department to organize efficient distribution for all items to be distributed to beneficiaries
Monitoring and Reporting
- - Ensure all field teams are making appropriate records of their activities with beneficiaries (beneficiary assessment and follow-up forms, referral forms, donation certificates, etc), and link this/her information with the data/monitoring in a timely manner
- - Ensure regular monitoring and reporting of the activities for quality and efficiency and ensure appropriate response to the identified needs.
- - Write regular (weekly, monthly) reports on activities and progress towards indicators as required
- - Conduct regular supervision visits to the targeted HFs to insure their compliance with standards and guidelines and the service provided by them. And to conduct building capacity/OJT for the team.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
Personal Specifications
Essential:
- Experience working within a Health and Nutrition project.
- Advanced training/experience in IMCI/BeMONC and infection prevention.
- Involvement in recent current or past outbreak preparedness and response efforts.
- Experience leading the development and delivery of training, coaching and supervision of the healthcare workforce.
Desirable:
- Expertise in maternal and newborn health services
- Experience working within the Ministry of Health
- Experience working in urban and rural settings
- Strong ability to write clear and well-structured reports.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine or equivalent in public health, Nurse, Medical Family.
- At least two years of experience in Health and Nutrition Projects.
- Working experience with NGOs at least Three years.
- Experience in writing quality reports.
- Experience in conduct training for HWs and coordination with GHO/MOH/SAMCHA.
- Excellent computer literacy with a full knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Google Drive.
- Strong data analysis skill. The use of CMAM, HIS.
- Facilitation, training, and coaching skills
- Good organizational skills, attention to detail and reporting in a timely manner.
- Teamwork and Management skills.
- Excellent English skills (verbal and writing).
