GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

About us:

BFD is a non-profitable, non-governmental, Yemeni and community-based humanitarian organization was established at the end of 2014 to carry out (Emergency, Early recovery and Developmental) multi-sectorial responses projects. It was aimed to improve the humanitarian issues and needs in different food security and agriculture, nutrition, health, WASH, protection, EECR, Education, Shelter/NFI and CCCM sectors.

Background:

Building Foundation for Development (BFD), a non-Governmental, non-Profit organization (NGO), a humanitarian-based development oriented which over years extended coverage to several governorates. It is being committed to contribute in attainment of the sustainable human development goals and realization of the vision of peace and welfare through sustainable and effective development projects.

MAIN PURPOSE:

The Pharmacist Officer is responsible for supporting all health and nutrition activities for the project with medicine and medical supplies. In addition to the specific duties outlined below, the Pharmacist Officer will be responsible for providing technical support and supervision to the health team; contributing to reporting and data collection; initiating leading monitoring visits to supported facilities; and providing technical input, writing and budgetary input for new project design.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

     Management of medicines and medical materials

  • Guarantees the implementation and proper use (following BFD and MOPH’s standards) of pharmacy management and monitoring tools (daily follow up form, order forms, etc.).
  • Ensures that project's pharmacies in the HFs are organized and managed properly.
  • Participates in the setup of new pharmacies in the health facilities and defines how they should be run.
  • Ensures the information flow the other members of the team concerning stock levels, pharmacy management and prescriptions.
  • Manages stock orders and the destruction of expired medicines in conformity with national protocol.
  • Manages the emergency stock and emergency boxes (relating to international and national staff health).
  • In collaboration with the logistic manager, defines the contents of, organizes and manages the stock prepositioned in the capital.
  • Preparation of Monthly consumption report.

      Medical supply and orders

  • In collaboration with the medical and logistics team, ensures there is a supply process for medicines and medical material in the project that functions properly (procedures, etc.).
  • Communicates regularly with the medical, logistics, HR and finance departments concerning medical supply.
  • Guarantees respect of BFD’s recommendations and information process in case of local purchase.

      Medical orders

  • Basic principle: the medical requests must be prepared by the Gov. Coordinators in charge of pharmacies, in collaboration with the health and Nutrition Officer.
  • Assists the logistics teams with customs clearance procedures of medical orders, if needed.
  • Ensures that the final version of orders has been sent to the field (lead time, quantities, etc.)
  • Perform any other tasks as required by line manager or technical manager.

      Capacity Building:

  • Identify learning and training opportunities for project staff and partners and work as a mentor and role model for less experienced staff.

      General

  • Comply with BFD policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities, fraud and other relevant policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Work experience in Health and Nutrition as emergency response projects is preferable.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to questions from line managers.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
  • English and Arabic language skills, both written and spoken are desirable.
  • Excellent computer skills and especially good understanding and knowledge of Microsoft excel.
