Position: CP Assistant (PSS and Community)

Location: Hodiedah

Grade: 5

Contract Length: As per the budget

The Opportunity:

  1. Child Protection Assistant is responsible for assisting and supervising community level MHPSS activities and volunteers (facilitators) in each setting, to ensure that activities are conducted in accordance applicable CP and MHPSS principles and standards.
  2. Child Protection Assistant will guide the implementation of Psychosocial and community mobilization activities, and make sure that child, adolescent and committees are dealt in a participatory way to empower and enhance children and community participation to present issues that concern children's survival, safety and well-being. 

Key Areas of Responsibilities: 

BEHAVIOURS (Values in Practice)

Key Areas of Responsibilities: 

  • Program Implementation: Assist in executing high-quality program activities that are aligned with program strategies, grant agreements, and Save the Children (SCI) technical requirements.
  • Reporting and Monitoring: Prepare timely and high-quality progress reports with statistical and narrative information on progress of community interventions, which informs management decisions. Monitor weekly activity schedules and ensure child participation in activity design and selection.

Community mobilization : 

Mobilise and engage whole communities or sections of it on CP and MHPSS issues as per project aims and objectives.

  • Facilitation: Facilitate Child Protection Committee meetings to identify critical issues, establish action plans, and provide guidance.
  • Community Engagement: Ensure community participation in child protection issues and the appropriateness of interventions to children's rights and needs Awareness Raising: Lead awareness campaigns on preventive and response messages for context-specific protection of children (girls and boys). Support child-led campaigns and advocacy plans, facilitating children's engagement and peer-to-peer information sharing/training.
  • Referral: Build mechanisms at community level for referral of children with protection concerns and their caregivers to appropriate service providers.
  • Information Sharing: Provide information to community members on referring to services for better child protection.

 

Training and Capacity Building:

  • Content Development: Collaborate with children, committees, community leaders, and colleagues to develop key messages on child protection.
  • Dissemination and Implementation: Facilitate action plan development for disseminating messages within child protection committees, student councils, and children's clubs.
  • Training Delivery: Train children, families, teachers, and community members on key CP issues.

MHPSS Support:

  • Supervision: Supervise Community level MHPSS activities and facilitators - ensuring activities are conducted in a child-friendly manner that empowers children to organize, express themselves creatively, and lead.
  • Support for Children's Activities: Support and guide children to organize/participate in events or festivals to promote child protection messages they find important. Encourage creative presentation and gender-equity topics.
  • Availability: Be available to support MHPSS, mobile team facilitators, and CPC members for guidance outside of regular activities.
  • Reporting: Work as a point of contact, reporting identified child protection cases as soon as informed. Refer children needing case management to Social Workers.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • At least 2 years experience in a humanitarian work context
  • Computer literate
  • Familiarity with CP and MHPSS interventions. 
  • Willingness and ability to dramatically change work practices and hours in the event of emergencies
  • Ability to analyze information, evaluate options, and follow the strategic directions as guided
  • An in-depth understanding of national development issues in particular as relates to children
  • Previous  experience working with a multicultural team and adaptability to varied team dynamics
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Fluency in written & spoken Arabic; able to communicate and write in English is considered an asset
  • Good negotiation and communication skills.
