National Consultant Position

 

Position:  Obstetrician/gynecologist

Reports to:  Health Supervisor

Location:     Taiz Governorate- Al-Nashamah Hospital

INTERSOS is an independent non-profit humanitarian organization committed to assisting the victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. Its activities are based on the principles of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equality of rights and opportunities, and respect for diversity and coexistence, paying special attention to the most vulnerable and unprotected people

Project objectives:

INTERSOS is implementing a multi-sector project funded by BHA in Taiz, aimed to improve the protective environment, while reducing morbidity and mortality related to poor access to health, nutrition, and WASH services in Yemen, by ensuring conflict and displacement-affected individuals have access to quality emergency health and nutrition services, lifesaving protection assistance and quality WASH services.

For the Health and Nutrition services, the project provides emergency health and nutrition services by running 1 mobile clinic team and supporting 1 health center to deliver the MSP service package in Jabal Habashi, and supporting 1 referral hospital in Ma’afer to implement secondary health services (running OT) and ensure referral pathways for H&N services. In addition, INTERSOS will support a network of Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) that provide community outreach services. For Nutrition services, INTERSOS will also support IYCF activities conducted at 4 local partners CBOs in Taiz.

INTERSOS closely coordinates with MOPIC/MoPHP/GHO and DHO and the project is also reported and supervised by the national clusters/ hub in Aden.

Responsibilities/duties:

  • Ensure implementation of reproductive health care components as per national protocol
  • Conduct OPD consultations for female patients focusing on obstetrics and gynecological-related diseases
  • Managing female triage room and assessing the Obs/Gyn departments according to clinical policies
  • Prepare government and organizational reports on birth, death, and disease statistics, workforce evaluations, or the medical status of individuals.
  • Advise female patients concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.
  • Analyze records, reports, test results, or examination information to diagnose the medical condition of the patient.
  • Care for and treat women during prenatal, natal, and post-natal periods.
  • Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical histories, reports, and examination results with the submission of required reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis according to the organization’s reporting system.
    Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
  • Monitor patients' condition and progress and consult with another specialty on neonatal care.
  • Perform cesarean sections or other surgical procedures as needed to preserve patients' health and deliver babies safely.
  • Prescribe or administer therapy, medication, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  • Follow up clinical inpatients and re-evaluate the cases
  • Refer patient to a medical specialist or another practitioner when necessary.
  • Treat diseases of female organs and carry out the ultrasound exam for the patient as needed
  • Conduct job training for midwives on BEmONC/CEmONC
  • Perform family planning services and training midwives on basic family planning.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of medical staff particularly midwives.
  • Plan, implement, or administer health programs in hospitals or communities for the prevention and treatment of injuries or illnesses.
  • Any other task requested in order to achieve the project’s objectives.
  • Always ensure confidentiality and conduct all activities respectfully and sensitively to beneficiaries and staff.

Qualification/level requirements

  • Professional degree, University degree in Medicine, and higher degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology “Master, Doctorate, Board Degree”.
  • Two to three years’ professional experience in the same field.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports.
  • A strong team player and exercise sound judgment and make decisions quickly and independently.
  • Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations.
  • Languages: Essential Arabic and English language
