Job Summary 

This position serves the Samaritan’s Purse Republic of Yemen office, which seeks to establish thriving and revitalized Yemen communities through multi sectoral interventions with priority focus on Health & Nutrition, WASH and Livelihoods programming. Primarily the individual who fills this position will assist in the day-to-day key aspects of accounting, specifically cash, document, and ledger management under the direction of the Finance Manager. This position provides specific support to Aden Finance department and assists in the administration of the financial/business functions of the unit.

Major Responsibilities: 

A.    General Accounting/Finance:

  • Maintain and update the Cash and Bank Ledgers. Upload them into Field Connect. Ensure that the Finance Journal is updated any time that a payment is made.
  • Review procurement documents before payments are initiated and ensure all supporting documents and necessary approval are there. This includes the Purchase Request, Quotations, Procurement Bid Summary, and Purchase Orders, Receipts or invoice.
  • Ensure that all costs are allocated to the respective speed keys and general ledger accounts as indicated in the Purchase requests and other supporting documents. 
  • Maintain filing systems, scan documents, and organize financial documents as per SP Field Operating Guidelines.
  • Distribute cash or prepare bank payments in alignment with documentation.

B.    Cash and Bank Management:

  • Participate in regular cash counts with members of the SPRY team.
  • Ensure staff member’s Cash Advances (CA’s) are closed in proper timing, review and upload Field Expense Reports (FERs), reconcile CA’s. 
  • Coordinate with all departments regarding all checks/bank transfers, in order to process all payments within the timeframe agreed.

C.    Month-end closure:

  • Assists the Finance Manager in the preparation of monthly financial reports and ledger entries, and respond to any other/urgent task requested by International Head Quarters.

D.    External and Internal Audit:

  • Assists in the preparation of the External / Internal Audit schedules.
  • Coordinate (with the Finance Manager) for responses to audit and compliance issues.

E.    Other duties:

  • Submit scanning checklist for review by the supervisor before submission to Regional Finance office.
  • Identify areas for financial and administrative improvement and work to implement feasible improvements.
  • Complete other activities as directed by the Line Manager and performing all other tasks and responsibilities assigned for the benefit of Samaritan’s Purse with a generous and serving spirit

17.    Willing to travel as required by Finance Manager and CD

Education / Experience Needed

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in finance, accounting, business, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in INGO, is desirable. 

LANGUAGE  

  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English are required

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.

1.    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be exposed to loud noises around maintenance and construction workshops.
2.    May travel in country with exposure to communicable diseases, hot and humid weather conditions.
