Background
The Society for Humanitarian Solidarity (SHS) is a nonprofit humanitarian NGO based in the in Aden, Yemen. It was founded in 1995.The SHS provides assistance to refugees and migrants who arrive in Yemen every year. The organization also assists the local community in Yemen. The NGO won the Nansen Refugee Award, dedicated by the UNCHR. SHS has partnerships with UNCHR, OCHA, and WFP.

Project overview:

“With the funding of WFP, SHS has implemented a project for community- based supplementary feeding program BSFP in Aden governorates as preventive measures to fight malnutrition in Yemen specially in the vulnerable people.

Job Summary/Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Project manager, Nutrition Officer will primarily be responsible for effective planning and implementation of nutrition-related activities of the project. He/she will supervise the activities of and provide guidance to the field-based project nutrition supervisors as appropriate. The Technical Officer (Nutrition) will spend considerable time in the field supporting and building rapport with the field-level staff,, CHNVs and other development partners.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate in implementing the food and nutrition status improvement activities at district and subdistrict levels.  
  • Ensure the Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program (BSFP) activities are implemented successfully in the food distribution points.
  • Develop key messages in nutrition to the targeted beneficiaries, and ensure it is delivered appropriately.
  • Undertake field supervision at least 1 visit per week in the respective districts
  • Report the problems faced in the field to project manager and DHO as appropriate and for timely action and attention to the problem.  
  • Track progress of the implementation and report to project manager and follow up on receiving daily, weekly and monthly reports in the required time and verify the accuracy of reports and supervision. 
  • Liaise with DHO for the implementation of the project and provide support for the preparation, implementation, capacity building and training, review, assessment and on job training.  
  • Take the responsibility to ensure delivering nutrition commodities to the targeted FDPs in time by regular following up the supplier (WFP),preparing CPDR and distribution reports 
  • Support Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) 

Qualifications and requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, public health, medical doctor, or any related field.
  • Training on CMAM 
  • Minimum of one years of work experience of implementing food-based nutrition as nutrition officer, 
  • Should have adequate competence in communication.
  • Experience in Planning and reporting in English.
  • Familiarity with administrative duties.
  • Organization skills, with an ability to stay focused on assigned tasks
  • Should be well-versed in computer applications such as MS Word and MS Excel
