General information on the mission
Première Urgence - Aide Médicale Internationale (PU-AMI) is an international, non-profit, non-political, and non-religious humanitarian organization which aims to provide rapid global response to the basic needs of populations affected by humanitarian crises to help them regain independence and dignity. PU-AMI provides assistance to more than 6 million people throughout 24 countries, with more than 2,500 staff worldwide.
PU-AMI adopts an integrated approach, to identify and understand the full array of the needs of the people affected by crises. This innovative approach is at the core of every PU-AMI-supported projects, to better target and prioritize actions, stabilize and improve the situation of the most vulnerable groups. It allows the teams to take all aspects of a problem into account, to come up with an efficient combination of solutions, which will have a powerful and long-lasting impact on the affected populations. In this respect, the organization runs around 190 projects a year worldwide, most of which are focused on Health, Nutrition, Food Security, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Psychosocial Support, Education and Protection activities.
In Yemen, PU-AMI is supporting 18 health facilities (Health Centers, Health Units and Therapeutic Feeding Centers) in four Districts in Hodeidah (Al Mighlaf, As Sukhnah, Al Mansuriyah and Al Qanawis), three Districts in Raymah (Bilad At Ta’am, Al Jabin and Mazhar) and two Districts in Taizz (Al Mokha and Mawza). PU-AMI’s operations are managed by two field offices in Hodeidah and Mokha cities, both supported by the Sana’a coordination office. PU-AMI recently established a second coordination office in Aden.
PU-AMI is participating actively in clusters and sub-clusters (health; nutrition; food security and livelihoods; WaSH) and works closely with relevant government departments.
Job Description
Overall Objective
To cook three balanced meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) according to the number of caretakers in the TFC and approved by the TFC Medical Doctor Team Leader or TFC Log assistant.
Tasks and Responsibilities
1. To prepare meals for the caretakers of children admitted into the TFC.
2. To follow up on the quantities of food, consumables, and equipment purchased and remaining, and anticipate future purchases to always avoid shortages.
3. To keep the kitchen neat and clean.
4. To participate in the sensitization sessions on nutrition provided to the caretakers by the educator (food diet, food preparation, transformation, conservation, etc.) and to facilitate the use of the kitchen for cooking demonstrations.
Specific objectives and linked activities
1. Cooking
- To inquire daily from the TFC Medical Doctor Team Leader or TFC Log assistant about the precise number of meals to be cooked for the day.
- To cook the necessarily balanced meals (Rice, Bread, Salad, vegetables, meat, chicken… etc.) for the caretakers according to the agreed meal table.
- To provide the meal to the BNF on time.
- To show flexibility with the caretakers who do not like some food by providing alternatives.
2. Shopping and stock
- To order necessary items to the TFC Medical Doctor Team Leader or TFC Log assistant every week.
- To keep always available stock of food consumables like rice, sugar, oil, flour, etc.
3. Hygiene and cleaning
- To clean the kitchen (including the gas stove) at the end of each working day.
- To clean all the dishes and keep clean dishes in the cabinet.
- To always prepare food and cook with clean hands and in the best hygienic conditions (appropriate clothes for cooking, washing the vegetables and fruits etc.)
4. Miscellaneous
- Participate in the nutrition education sessions provided to the caretakers by the health educator and adapt the cooking to these sessions.
- To follow the GHO cook assistant tasks.
- Report the number of meals provided every day and the quantities used/remaining.
- To do a handover of the kitchen to the daily Worker every weekend and to receive it on return.
In General, the Cook has to remain flexible and perform other duties as required by the direct line manager for the good running of the TFC activities.
