The WASH Field Engineer is responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, supervision, and monitoring of all water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure activities.

Roles and Responsibilities of WASH Field Engineer

  • WASH Field Engineer will be responsible for the implementation of the projects' activities at field level. He/she will be responsible for the design, bills of quantities (BOQs), specifications, contract development, and review, follow-up and evaluation of activities related to the construction of latrines and rehabilitation latrines, checking of materials specifications, and implementation of all WASH activities. 
  • The WASH Field Engineer will support the Project Manager in ensuring the effective implementation of all aspects of this project related to all WASH rehabilitation activities, 
  • Work with the Project Manager to make weekly plans and field visits.
  • Ensure the quality and efficiency of all field work done relevant to WASH rehabilitation activities and tasks in line with the comprehensive execution plan, MoUs, WASH standards and requirements to ensure high technical quality.
  • Prepare and implement all of the WASH assessments related to the project’s activities in terms of the projects selection and designing.
  • Submit any relevant documentation to Project Manager at the end of each day with work summary.
  • Perform regular work inspections to assure quality of works and compatibility with agreed specification, standard and drawings.
  • Supervise daily activities of relevant staff and progress of works. 
  • Prepare, check the quality and accuracy of all documents submitted by the field staff (beneficiary lists, reports, analysis, forms etc.). 
  • Regular visits to field areas to supervise all WASH infrastructure activities and ensuring quality of all WASH infrastructures.
  • Supervise the selection of the materials, equipment, and resources for the public health / hygiene promotion and community participation activities with suitable technical specifications and assuring quality. 
  • Preparation of weekly, monthly and field visit reports and sharing with Project Manager on timely manner.
  • Ensure program integration between WASH Teams and other sectors throughout the planning, design and implementation stages.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the project Manager 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills 

Essential Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Bachelor Degree in civil engineering, construction management or other area related to the role 
  • Capability to establish good and respectful relationship with other actors;
  • Able to train and manage a team (to listen, advise, support, solve problems, motivate);
  • Experience with participatory fieldwork, methodologies, monitoring and reporting;
  • Knowledge of humanitarian principles and code of conduct;
  • Patience, good personal organization, good communication and ability to work in teams, seriously, rigorously and personal accountability;
  • Very good interpersonal and skills, especially with beneficiaries facing difficult situations;
  • Initiative, flexibility, team spirit, willingness to learn, and a positive attitude;
  • Ability to work under time pressure, independently and with limited supervision;
  • Computer literate (IT) and good level of numeracy.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 2-year experience in the field and in a related position. Preferably more than 3-year experience in managing people.

Languages Required

  • Excellent  Arabic and English Language.
