GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The project Coordinator will be responsible for the development and implementation of protection monitoring, information dissemination, referrals, legal services, emergency protection assistance and community based protection programming in all locations, as well as leading or supporting the management of relationships with partners where relevant. They will lead the design of protection monitoring methodologies, ensure adherence to program quality standards, and lead capacity building of staff and partners. The Project Coordinator will oversee the quality of protection data collection and analysis and produce succinct and accurate protection reports for dissemination to relevant stakeholders, and inform programming and advocacy both internally and externally.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

1.    Provide a technical basis and harmonization of protection monitoring, information dissemination, referrals, legal services, emergency protection assistance and community based protection programming across field sites, with an emphasis on maintaining and improving program quality.
2.    Oversee implementation of the protection monitoring and information dissemination program through managing project work plans; ensuring quality implementation and accurate reporting in accordance with SHS and donor regulations.
3.    Develop protection assessments and analysis for the purpose of program development.
4.    Provide input on proposals from other sectors to ensure protection is mainstreamed.
5.    Identify opportunities for, design and develop concept notes and proposals for further protection monitoring, information dissemination and community based protection programming.
6.    Ensure that all interventions are in compliance with the protection mainstreaming framework, international and humanitarian law and protection standards and national policies.
7.    Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promoting a strong team spirit and providing oversight and guidance to enable staff to successfully perform in their positions.
8.    Responsible for overseeing structured staff work plans, work and vacation schedules, and staff training/development activities. 
9.    Work closely and coordinates with Logistics, Finance and Program departments to ensure timely and compliant program activities and expenditures; including active participation in grant opening/closing and review meetings.
10.    Provide legal advice and guidance on protection issues to internal and external interlocutors; ensure legal assistance is accessible to persons of concern; liaise with competent authorities to ensure the issuance of personal and other relevant documents to persons of concern (civil documentation, in particular birth certificates).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for building and maintaining good relations with key stakeholders including Local Authorities, Donors, UN/INGOs, and Clusters. In close collaboration with Deputy Head of Programs, responsible for relations with donor focal points.

Employees supervised: Project staff members.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Guided by the SHS Policies, continuously monitor and suggest relevant accountability initiatives in the field as well as strengthen the effort to document the impact of activities in the project area.

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO:  Deputy Head of Programs.

WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Programme Manager, Operation Manager, logistics officer/procurement officer, Admin/HR Manager, Finance Manager/Officer, M&E Manager, and Data & Media Manager, and internal Controller.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • -  Minimum 3 years of work experience in a similar or equivalent role in an I/NGO in areas of humanitarian/development sector.
  • - Previous experience in protection monitoring
  • - Excellent writing and reporting skills.  
  • - Interpersonal Skill: Ability to work with departmental heads & technical manager to ensure smooth work operations, including excellent verbal communication.
  • - Should have adaptability, Self-motivation, and Organizational skills.
  • - Time management Skill: being able to achieve operational objectives within set deadline.
  • - Experience of proposal development for multiple donors and in-depth knowledge of project management and all aspects of project cycle. 
  • - Excellent communication skills, cultural sensitivity, flexibility, ability to improvise, team player.
