Job Description

Terms of Reference (TOR): Psychosocial Counsellor

Location: AlHalimin, Lahj, Yemen

Duration: 12 months

1. Objective

The Psychosocial Counsellor will be responsible for providing mental health and psychosocial support services within a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) project, ensuring effective case management for beneficiaries. The Psychosocial Counsellor will work closely with the project team and partner organizations to deliver high-quality services and contribute to the overall success of the project.

2. Duties and Responsibilities

The Psychosocial Counsellor will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Provide mental health and psychosocial support to survivors of GBV, including individual counseling, group therapy sessions, and psychoeducation.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of beneficiaries' psychosocial needs and develop individualized care plans.
  • Implement evidence-based interventions and modalities to address the mental health and psychosocial needs of beneficiaries.
  • Collaborate with other project team members and partner organizations to ensure a coordinated and integrated approach to service delivery.
  • Conduct regular follow-up sessions with beneficiaries to monitor their progress and make necessary adjustments to care plans.
  • Provide guidance and support to case management officers in identifying and responding to GBV cases.
  • Ensure adherence to ethical principles and standards in the provision of mental health and psychosocial support services.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all interventions and activities related to mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and case management.
  • Contribute to project monitoring and evaluation activities, including data collection and reporting.
  • Participate in capacity-building initiatives and training programs to enhance skills and knowledge in MHPSS and case management.

4. Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate for the Psychosocial Counsellor position should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Diploma degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field.
  • At least one year of proven experience in providing mental health and psychosocial support services, particularly in the context of GBV.
  • Sound knowledge of case management principles and practices, including experience in conducting assessments and developing care plans.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based MHPSS interventions and modalities.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including women and girls affected by conflict and displacement.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and maintain confidentiality with beneficiaries.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with partner organizations.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English; knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable.
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
