About Generations without Qat Organization:
GWQ "Generations Without Qat" is a non-governmental organization based in Yemen that was formally established in 2010 as a result of ongoing volunteer and awareness work that a group of development activists had been performing since 2007.
GWQ is a premier humanitarian and development organization that covers several governorates in humanitarian response activities, providing relief support to conflict-affected communities in multiple sectors such as WASH, Shelter, NFIs, Education, and CCCMs. Since our inception in 2010, GWQ has dedicated its efforts to assisting communities in the country, especially the most disadvantaged, in providing livelihoods and improving health and education. Beneficiaries' activities of the organization are youth, women and children, conflict-affected communities, and vulnerable groups.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare plans and support any shelter, and physical infrastructure needs assessment in IDP sites
- Prepare plans and support any water and sanitation needs assessment, available resources, and the capacity of existing systems in IDP sites
- Negotiate access for assessment in IDP sites if needed and obtain necessary authority approvals with the support of the Project Manager and coordinator.
- In consultation with project manager, Shelter and WASH engineer, CCCM team, Shelter and WASH Officers, and Sub-National Shelter/NFI and CCCM Clusters, support the selection of sites for GWQ intervention, to support sites with the needed services.
- Conduct consultation with community representatives (including women) – in collaboration with CCCM teams – during the assessment, design, planning, and implementation phases
- Maintain an appropriate plan of intervention in place for each site, designed with GWQ CCCM team as part of an integrated site approach, and well communicated to the community
- Support the design of appropriate Shelter interventions for the sites, in line with Cluster guidelines and following the instructions of Wash and Shelter engineer. In informal settlements, this might include the provision of emergency shelters. In collective centers, this might include rehabilitation of buildings e.g. sealing-off to be weather-proof, temporary partitioning for family privacy, installation of doors or handrails;
- Support the design of appropriate Infrastructure interventions for the sites, in line with Cluster guidelines and following the instructions of Wash and Shelter engineer. In informal settlements, this might include drainage works, the creation of footpaths, or small-scale re-planning of the site to improve spacing between shelters and reduce fire risk or improve safe access to latrines. In collective centers, this might include improving building access, or medium-scale rehabilitation works
- Support the design of appropriate sanitation systems for households and communities. This includes management of liquid and solid waste, drainage, and vector control (in collaboration with CCCM), and complementary hygiene promotion and hygiene materials needs
- Support planning of appropriately designed emergency shelter and WASH interventions (including distributions of hygiene and cholera kits, Emergency, Repair and sandbags kits, and hygiene promotion activities);
- Ensure accessible and safe designs and site planning including in WASH facilities. Facilities should be accessible for persons with limited mobility, and considered safe and accessible by women, elderly, and vulnerable persons, with appropriate public lighting installed or available at household level. Latrines must be gender-separated, well-lit, and lockable
- In collaboration with GWQ CCCM team, assess fire risk in the sites and implement mitigation and response measures e.g. re-positioning of shelters, installation of fire buckets, and collaborate on training community members accordingly.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- University degree in Engineering or another relevant field
- At least three years of practical hands-on experience implementing Shelter/NFI, WASH, and/or CCCM projects.
- At least one year’s experience implementing emergency humanitarian shelter/NFI, CCCM, and/or infrastructure response and/or WASH response.
- Ability to support and empower team members
- Excellent coordination and reporting skills and ability to represent the organization with external stakeholders;
- Excellent team-working and communication skills
- Excellent written and spoken Arabic and English skills.
