About Generations without Qat Organization: 

GWQ is a voluntary non-governmental youth organization was launched in 2007 as an initiative of young Yemeni volunteers with the common goals to involve, guide and invest in development of youth abilities. The initiative started to work on awareness raising around the negative consequences of chewing of Qat (a softdrug) as a bad habit that Yemenis are involved in. Later on this original focus was extended to include the concept of civic education and to work on developmental issues with and by youth to enable them to be leaders in their communities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Verify that all designed materials for shelter and transitional shelter kits meet the highest quality standards and come from acceptable countries of origin.
  • Ensure that all incoming materials are of the highest quality and compliant with safety and security standards.

Compliance and Safety Standards:

  • Ensure that all contractors adhere to Statutory Law, as well as TYF and donor safety and security protocols, at all construction and rehabilitation sites.
  • Monitor ongoing construction/rehabilitation works for compliance with all relevant regulations, maintaining safety standards on-site.

Reporting:

  • Write and submit weekly activity reports and field visit reports, documenting critical points in the construction/rehabilitation process.
  • Provide timely reports on progress, issues, and any necessary interventions to ensure quality control and meet project deadlines.

Technical Design and Documentation:

  • Develop technical designs, detailed bills of quantities (BOQs), estimated costs, drawings, and structural calculations for construction/rehabilitation works.
  • Ensure that designs and works align with TYF and donor regulations, and conform to existing local, national, and international standards

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRMENTS:

  • A university degree in Civil Engineering.

Experience:

  • At least three years of experience as a civil engineer, with proven experience in implementing infrastructure projects.
  • Previous experience working with international NGOs (INGOs), local NGOs, or similar organizations, particularly in the context of Quality Infrastructure Projects (QIPs).
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD and structural analysis programs.
  • Strong understanding of construction practices and engineering principles.
  • A commitment to ethical principles and codes of conduct, particularly in relation to working with vulnerable populations.
  • Good knowledge of relevant codes and standards, such as Sphere and other international standards for shelter and camp management.
  • Strong planning, organizing, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English (reading, speaking, writing).
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining work quality under pressure.
  • Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Good understanding of the local area, its context, and the needs of the affected populations.
