Job Description
Role and responsibilities
The purpose of the Education coordinator is to implement delegated Education project portfolio manage education staff and lead the ECW Consortium Management unit.
Generic responsibilities
The purpose of the Education Coordinator position is to manage and implement ECW project (activities, budget, project documentation, coordination with partners) in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality. The following is a brief description of the role
- Line management of ECW project staff based in Taiz including oversight of work plans and activities implementation.
- Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
- Contribute to Education strategy development, project proposal, and provide input on needs and gaps as directed by the Education Project Manager.
- Manage and implement delegated portfolio of ECW project (Formal and Non-formal) and manage ECW consortium budget and documentation as delegated by the Education Manager (or Area Program Manager) in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality.
- Provide regular progress updates to the Education Manager and Education Specialist as required.
- Ensure that projects target participants most in need of education support, explore and asses new and better ways to assist.
- Promote and share ideas for improvement and necessary changes in the activities.
- Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills.
- Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders including YEC and regularly attend meetings to have positive contribution.
- Promote the rights of the target group in line with the advocacy strategy.
- Lead ECW consortium and ensure the effective role of Consortium management unit.
- Represent NRC in all coordination meetings (related to ECW) with MoE , YEC and any other related local authorities
Specific responsibilities
Project Coordination & Implementation
- Lead the ECW consortium, ensuring effective coordination among partners, timely decision-making, and adherence to project objectives.
- Oversee the implementation of ECW project activities, ensuring alignment with the work plan, quality standards, and programmatic goals.
- Facilitate coordination between project teams and the consortium to address challenges, share lessons learned, and ensure smooth project execution.
- Conduct weekly field visits to monitor activities, provide technical guidance, and ensure outputs and outcomes are met.
- Gather, collate and finalize all reporting requirements, both internally and by the donor, ensuring that deadlines are respected.
Programmatic Oversight & Quality Assurance
- Ensure effective implementation of non-formal education activities, including teacher training, FMCs/CECs capacity building, and community engagement initiatives.
- In collaboration with cross-functional teams, supervise infrastructure support to schools, ensuring safeguarding principles and environmental impact mitigation measures are integrated.
- Work with the MEAL team to develop tools aligned with project indicators, oversee assessments, and ensure quality reporting.
- Monitor progress against project indicators, ensuring timely data collection, documentation, and adaptive learning.
Stakeholder Engagement & Representation
- Engage with external education partners, including the Yemen Education Cluster (YEC), school communities (FMCs, CECs), and relevant stakeholders to enhance coordination and maximize impact.
- Represent the project in ECW-related meetings and events, contributing to strategy development and ensuring alignment with national education priorities.
Budget & Resource Management
- Lead project budget reviews, financial tracking, and donor reporting, ensuring compliance with funding requirements.
- Ensure budget vs. actual spending analysis is conducted monthly and presented to the Education Manager.
- Oversee resource management and procurement planning to ensure timely and cost-effective allocation of project resources.
Capacity Building & Team Management
- Develop detailed work plans for project implementation and monitoring.
- Identify staff capacity needs, develop capacity-building initiatives, and provide coaching and mentorship to education staff.
- Support the implementation of the ECW project's visibility and communication plan in collaboration with the Communications team.
Additional Responsibilities
- Undertake any other reasonable tasks assigned by management in support of project objectives.
Critical interfaces
By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are:
- Project planning and implementation: Area Management, Finance, Logistics and HR, M&E, Grants and Compliance
- Other CCs for integrated planning: Aden ICLA/Protection Coordinator, LFS coordinator, Shelter Coordinator and Education Specialist
- Staff capacity building: Education Manager, Education Specialist, HR Coordinator
Scale and scope of position:
Staff: | 2 Education Officers, 1 Education Assistant (subject to change depending on grant development). |

- Fluency in English, both written and verbal
Context related skills, knowledge and experience:
- Knowledge of the context in the Aden, Lahj, Abyan, Aldhale’e and Taiz.

- Strong leadership skills and a supportive management style.
- Fluency in English and Arabic are essential, both written and verbal.
