Family Counseling and Development Foundation is a non-governmental humanitarian organization which was established on January 8, 2011 in Yemen. FCDF is specialized in providing mental health and psychosocial support services for 15 years to men, women and children who seek help, including a qualified Yemeni staff who are very specialized in MHPSS.

Project Background

FCDF and CARPO are jointly implementing the project ‘Psychosocial Support Through the Arts (PSSArts) for Marginalized Groups in Yemen’. The overall objective of this project is to contribute to sustainable MHPSS services for IDPs, host communities and marginalized groups in Lahij and Aden through education and the arts. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

Job Purpose:

To inspire and engage students through creative art-based sessions that foster self-expression, confidence, and social connection. The Artist uses their skills in visual or performing arts to create safe, enjoyable, and inclusive spaces where children can explore creativity as a tool for personal growth and wellbeing. Another key responsibility of this role is to build the capacity of school teachers to deliver art-based activities, ensuring sustainability and integration of psychosocial support through arts into the school curriculum beyond the project period.

Key Deliverables

• Attendance of all three project workshops spanning 3-5 days 
• Implementation of art classes in select schools under the supervision of the Expert in Psychosocial Support through Arts
• Train and mentor school teachers during sessions to equip them with the skills to continue delivering art-based activities after the project ends
• Contribution to learning materials and other awareness-raising activities upon request
• Help in developing the training material for the project activities

Duties and Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

Student Engagement

• Facilitate group art sessions (drawing, painting, crafts, music, drama, or other art forms) that encourage creativity and self-expression.
• Support students in developing confidence, teamwork, and communication through artistic activities.
• Create a safe and inclusive environment where all students feel welcome to participate.

Integration into Education:

• Deliver art-based sessions that integrate into school curricula

Creative Programming and Sustainability

• Co-Design age-appropriate art activities 
• Co-design and implement school-based art interventions for children that promote emotional expression, resilience, and social interaction.
• Incorporate cultural and local artistic traditions into workshops to ensure relevance and inclusivity.
• Train and mentor school teachers during sessions to equip them with the skills to continue delivering art-based activities after the project ends.
• Support the integration of arts-based psychosocial activities into the school curriculum to ensure long-term sustainability.
• Contribute to school-wide art initiatives such as exhibitions, performances, or collaborative projects.

Collaboration

• Work closely with the PSS-Art expert, psychotherapist, and teachers to align art sessions with psychosocial objectives.
• Share observations about student participation and engagement with the supervising team.
• Support school events and awareness-raising activities through creative contributions.
• Identification and referral:
• Observe student participation and share insights with the supervising PSS expert to help identify children who may need referral to FCDF specialized clinics.

Learning & Awareness

• Contribute creative input to the development of learning materials and awareness-raising activities on arts-based MHPSS in Yemen.

Documentation & Reporting

• Record attendance and participation in art sessions.
• Provide feedback on student engagement and creative progress to supervisors.
• Assist in preparing materials for exhibitions, performances, or school events.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• BA in Fine Arts, Design, Art Therapy, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• At least 5 years’ experience in participatory arts programming with vulnerable children under the age of 16 years old.
• Minimum of 3 years of previous work with children in art sessions (drawing, painting, crafts, music, drama, or other art forms) and in humanitarian/emergency.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed creative practices is an asset.
• Recognized artistic practice with ability to inspire and engage students.
• Strong facilitation and communication skills, with sensitivity to diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
• Ability to train and mentor teachers to deliver art-based activities independently.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with educators and multidisciplinary teams.
• Creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm for working in school environments.
• Experience in organizing art exhibitions, performances, or collaborative projects is an asset.

Relevant Experience

• Has a well-established base of arts & crafts knowledge of Yemen local culture and materials.
• Has engaged with INGOs & local community-based-organizations in an arts capacity educator.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in participatory arts programming with children and/or vulnerable populations, preferably in humanitarian, community development, or education contexts.
• Demonstrated experience in co-designing arts-based activities that are culturally appropriate, inclusive, and feasible in low-resource settings.
• Proven track record in facilitating group arts activities for diverse age groups (6–16 years) in school or community-based settings.
• Prior experience working with IDPs, children with disabilities, or marginalized groups.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

• Ability to integrate psychosocial support principles into arts-based activities, ensuring emotional safety and inclusivity.
• Knowledge of locally available, low-cost materials and techniques suitable for sustainable arts programming.
• Familiarity with MoE school settings and schedules to adapt interventions into existing education frameworks.
• Skills in a variety of mediums (e.g., mosaic, recycled crafts, sculpture, cultural calligraphy, textile arts).
• Basic capacity to document activities (photos, process notes, attendance sheets) while respecting safeguarding and consent protocols.

Soft Skills & Competencies

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, social workers, and MHPSS professionals.
• Creativity, adaptability, and problem-solving in challenging and resource-limited environments.
• Commitment to inclusive participation of girls, boys, and children with disabilities.
• Respect for cultural norms and sensitivity to community perceptions of arts activities.
• Clear and respectful communication in Arabic; basic English is an additional asset especially when localizing proven PSSArts activity training tools.

خلفية المشروع

تنفذ كل من FCDF وCARPO مشروع "الدعم النفسي الاجتماعي عبر الفنون (PSSArts) للفئات المهمشة في اليمن". يهدف المشروع إلى المساهمة في توفير خدمات دعم نفسي اجتماعي مستدامة للنازحين والمجتمعات المضيفة والفئات المهمشة في لحج وعدن من خلال التعليم والفنون. المشروع ممول من وزارة التعاون الاقتصادي والتنمية الألمانية (BMZ) وبدعم من الوكالة الألمانية للتعاون الدولي (GIZ).

الهدف من الوظيفة

إلهام الطلاب وإشراكهم من خلال جلسات فنية إبداعية تعزز التعبير عن الذات، الثقة بالنفس، والتواصل الاجتماعي. يستخدم الفنان مهاراته في الفنون البصرية أو الأدائية لخلق بيئة آمنة وشاملة يستمتع فيها الأطفال باستكشاف الإبداع كأداة للنمو الشخصي والرفاه النفسي. ويساهم في بناء قدرات المعلمين على تنفيذ أنشطة فنية لضمان استدامة دمج الفنون في المناهج الدراسية بعد انتهاء المشروع.

المهام الرئيسية

إشراك الطلاب

• تسهيل جلسات جماعية (رسم، تلوين، أشغال يدوية، موسيقى، مسرح أو غيرها) لتعزيز الإبداع والتعبير عن الذات.
• دعم الطلاب في تطوير الثقة والعمل الجماعي والتواصل عبر الأنشطة الفنية.
• خلق بيئة آمنة وشاملة لجميع الطلاب.

دمج الفنون في التعليم

• تنفيذ جلسات فنية مدمجة في المناهج الدراسية.

البرمجة الإبداعية والاستدامة

• تصميم أنشطة فنية مناسبة للأعمار المختلفة.
• دمج التقاليد الفنية المحلية لضمان الملاءمة والشمولية.
• تدريب ومرافقة المعلمين لتمكينهم من الاستمرار في تنفيذ الأنشطة الفنية.
• دعم إدماج الأنشطة الفنية في المناهج لضمان الاستدامة طويلة الأمد.
• المساهمة في مبادرات مدرسية مثل المعارض والعروض الفنية.

التعاون

• العمل مع خبير الدعم النفسي الاجتماعي عبر الفنون والأخصائي النفسي والمعلمين لتحقيق الأهداف النفسية الاجتماعية.

• دعم الفعاليات المدرسية والأنشطة التوعوية من خلال مساهمات فنية.

التحديد والإحالة

• ملاحظة مشاركة الطلاب ومشاركة الأفكار مع الخبير المشرف للمساعدة في تحديد الأطفال الذين قد يحتاجون إلى إحالة للعيادات المتخصصة التابعة لـFCDF.

التعلم والتوعية

• المساهمة في تطوير مواد تعليمية وأنشطة توعوية حول الدعم النفسي الاجتماعي عبر الفنون في اليمن.

التوثيق والتقارير

• تسجيل الحضور والمشاركة في الجلسات الفنية.
• تقديم ملاحظات حول مشاركة الطلاب وتقدمهم الفني.
• المساعدة في إعداد مواد للمعارض والعروض المدرسية.

المؤهلات والمهارات المطلوبة

• بكالوريوس في الفنون الجميلة، التصميم، العلاج بالفن أو مجال ذي صلة (أو خبرة معادلة).
• خبرة لا تقل عن 5 سنوات في برامج الفنون التشاركية مع الفئات الضعيفة.
• خبرة لا تقل عن 3 سنوات في العمل مع الأطفال في المجال الفني (رسم، تلوين، أشغال يدوية، موسيقى، مسرح أو غيرها)  و في السياقات الإنسانية/الطارئة.
• معرفة بالممارسات الإبداعية المراعية للصدمات ميزة إضافية.
• ممارسة فنية معترف بها وقدرة على إلهام الطلاب.
• مهارات تيسير وتواصل قوية مع حساسية للثقافات والخلفيات الاجتماعية المختلفة.
• القدرة على تدريب المعلمين وتمكينهم من تنفيذ الأنشطة الفنية بشكل مستقل.
• خبرة في تنظيم معارض أو عروض فنية ميزة إضافية.

• معرفة واسعة بالفنون والحرف اليدوية المحلية في اليمن.
• خبرة في التعاون مع منظمات دولية ومجتمعية في مجال التعليم الفني.
• خبرة مثبتة في تصميم أنشطة فنية مناسبة ثقافياً وقابلة للتنفيذ في بيئات محدودة الموارد.
• خبرة في العمل مع الأطفال النازحين أو ذوي الإعاقة أو الفئات المهمشة.

• معرفة بالمواد المحلية منخفضة التكلفة المناسبة للبرامج الفنية المستدامة.
