About SDF:

The Sustainable Development Foundation (SDF) is a non-governmental, voluntary, independent organization established, officially registered at the Ministry of Social Affairs as per license (99/307). SDF has been present in Yemen, it has experience implementing emergency child protection and education responses, including women and youth empowerment. SDF has experience in handling large grants from international donors, such as UNDP, UNHCR, WFP, OCHA, WHO, SCI and ZOA. SDF has excellent national-level relations and has experience in coordinating with both national and international NGOs. It has offices, staff and community-based committees in Hajjah, Sana'a, Marib, Ibb, Hudidah, Dhamar, Almahweet, Al-Bayda’a, and Hadramout as well as solid experiences engaging with local communities from whom it gained acceptance and with whom it has collaborated in the past. In addition to that, SDF creates livelihood opportunities and community-based protection.

Job Purpose:

Case Management is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating people for mental, emotional, behavioral, educational, and developmental disorders. A psychologist is a mental health professional in charge of performing psychoanalysis to diagnose mental illness and provide treatment for mental and behavioral issues. Their duties include conducting talk therapy with clients, writing referrals to other health professionals and performing mental health assessments to identify problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate the mental, emotional, behavioral, educational, and developmental needs of children.
  • Use standardized tools and techniques to diagnose mental health and behavioral issues in children.
  • Create and implement individualized case management plans for each child, focusing on their specific needs and goals.
  • Ensure that care plans are holistic, addressing mental health, emotional well-being, education, and development.
  • Conduct talk therapy sessions with children and their families to address mental health and behavioral issues.
  • Use evidence-based therapeutic approaches (e.g., cognitive-behavioral therapy, play therapy) to support children’s emotional and psychological well-being.
  • Write referrals to other health professionals (e.g., psychiatrists, social workers, educational specialists) when additional support or specialized care is needed.
  • Coordinate with other service providers to ensure children receive comprehensive and timely support.
  • Regularly monitor the progress of children under care and adjust case management plans as needed.
  • Conduct follow-up sessions to ensure continuity of care and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Provide immediate support to children in crisis situations, including those experiencing acute mental health or behavioral issues.
  • Develop and implement crisis intervention plans to address urgent needs and ensure the safety and well-being of children.
  • Maintain confidential and accurate records of all cases, including assessments, care plans, and follow-up actions.
  • Prepare regular reports on case management activities, outcomes, and challenges for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including psychologists, social workers, educators, and medical professionals, to ensure a coordinated approach to child care.
  • Participate in case conferences and team meetings to discuss complex cases and develop integrated support plans.
  • Conduct awareness sessions for families and communities on child mental health, behavioral issues, and available support services.
  • Promote understanding of the importance of early intervention and case management for children’s well-being.
  • Provide training and support to community members, staff, and partners on child case management, mental health, and behavioral issues.
  • Share best practices and tools for identifying and addressing children’s needs.
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards in providing case management services, ensuring confidentiality and respect for children’s rights.
  • Follow the do-no-harm principle and prioritize the safety and well-being of children.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field is required. 
  • Certification or training in case management, child protection, or mental health is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in case management, preferably working with children and families.
  • Experience in child protection, mental health, or psychosocial support is essential.
  • Proven experience in conducting assessments, developing care plans, and providing direct support to children.
  • Proficiency in using assessment tools and techniques to evaluate mental, emotional, behavioral, and developmental issues in children.
  • Strong knowledge of case management principles and practices, including monitoring, follow-up, and referral systems.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and providing immediate support to children in urgent situations.
  • Understanding of child development, mental health disorders, and behavioral issues.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care and evidence-based therapeutic approaches for children (e.g., cognitive-behavioral therapy, play therapy).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with children and their families.
  • Strong empathy and the ability to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for children to express themselves.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with other professionals (e.g., psychologists, social workers, educators).
  • Proficiency in English is preferred for reporting and coordination purposes.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical guidelines in case management and child protection.
  • Understanding of the do-no-harm principle and the ability to work sensitively in culturally diverse contexts.
  • Willingness to work full-time and be available for field visits, follow-ups, and urgent cases as needed.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
