TITLE : PROTECTION WORKER- SOUTH

GLOBAL OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION

Under the responsibility of the Protection Technical Officer, the protection Worker contributes to the implementation of Humanity & Inclusion's mandate in his or her country-Yemen. 
He/she contributes to the implementation of projects by directly implementing the activities and ensuring that the quality and impact of the project(s) concerned is optimized. 
He/she works closely with the program’s technical and operations team, included the Protection and Inclusion Project Supervisors and other relevant colleagues in the field.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Line manager: Protection Technical Officer_ South

Mission 1: Activity Implementation (90%) 

  • Work as community/static protection team to identify, register and analyze the protection, specifically social concerns, risk and specific needs of project targeted beneficiaries (such as persons with disabilities, persons with psychosocial distress, women and girls etc.)
  • According to the needs identified; prepare the list of persons for internal and external referral.  
  • Carryout protection mainstreaming, MHPSS/Protection/SRHR related awareness raising activities in the community and report protection issues, specifically social issues to the Protection Technical Officer, and other relevant colleagues. 
  • Identification of extremely vulnerable cases (Social, Persons with disabilities etc.), prepare list and make appropriate and safe referrals with support of relevant colleagues (when needed).
  • Together with other relevant colleagues; work with women, men, girls and boys in the community and in the static points, to identify their needs and priorities, and where possible, with support of Protection Technical Officer, adapt activities according to these to ensure activities offered are culturally appropriate and meet the needs targeted groups. Take a lead in the direct implementation of the activities.
  • Prepare the referral list of all identified cases on mental health and psychosocial issues and share with/refer to the MHPSS team in timely manner.  

Mission 2: Activity Follow Up and Reporting (10%) 

  • Ensure a qualitative follow up of the beneficiaries and document the follow up according to the monitoring plan.
  • Ensure a regular quantitative and qualitative reporting through the tools (assessment form, follow up form, discharge form, donation certificate where applicable, support group report) and system in place.
  • Organization of the weekly plan within the integrated team, with the guidance of the Protection Technical Officer.
  • Support the Protection Technical Officer for the development of relevant tools/documents.
  • Any other reports to be made upon line manager request.

Mission 3: Emergency Preparedness and Response Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the support or to the implementation of the program(s) emergency preparedness actions and, during an emergency, adapts his/her work modality to contribute to HI’s effective humanitarian response.

Bachelors in Social Science

Sociology/psychology/ Gender studies diploma

Experience

At least 1 years’ experience in the field of protection, specifically in social program implementation in humanitarian context

Experience in protection program implementation

  • local language mandatory (oral and written)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong capacity to represent HI in internal and external forums when needed
  • Experience in drafting clear and concise reports
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with field teams
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Reactivity and flexibility in all circumstances
  • Ability to organize his/her work, and manage priorities
  • Good knowledge of Protection guidelines and policies in humanitarian action
  • Good writing skills

TIME SCHEDULE

The working hours are the following: Sunday to Thursday – 8.00 to 4.30 (with 30 minutes lunch break). Note that the working time can go up to 48 hours per week (according to the local labor law) if it is required by the volume of activities and by the line manager.

CONFIDENTIALITY CLAUSE 

As the position is involved in sensitive topics, he/ she must observe absolute discretion within and outside the organization.  
A non-respect of this clause might have immediate dismissal as a result. 
Any breach of the above-mentioned responsibilities, of the Conditions of Engagement may be sanctioned by a written warning or immediate dismissal if appropriate.

Job Conditions

  • The salary will be defined according to HI’s existing salary scale
  • Based in Aden, with regular movements to the field (Lahj and the West Coast)
  • 30 days leave/year + benefits (transport allowance, health insurance, life insurance)
  • The working hours are the following: 8:00 to 16:30 (with 30 minutes lunch break) from Sunday to Thursday.
  • Note that working time can go up to 48 hours per week (according to the Yemen labor law) if it is required by the volume of activities and by the line manager.
