Action For Humanity International is a non-government organization dedicated to providing humanitarian aid, advocating for social justice, and promoting sustainable development in Yemen and other areas in need across the globe. Since our inception, we have been addressing some of the most urgent humanitarian crises, while endeavoring to find long-term solutions that enhance the welfare of the communities we serve.
Action for Humanity is seeking an experienced and motivated agricultural consultant to join its team as a trainer. The consultant will work with the organization's staff and partner organizations to provide training and technical assistance to smallholder farmers in rural communities.
Position Summary
The Grants Officer will play a pivotal role in advancing the strategic objectives of Action For Humanity (AFH) Yemen through effective grant management, high-quality proposal development, monitoring and evaluation (MEAL), donor communications, and representation. Working under the supervision of the Grants Coordinator, the postholder will ensure that grant-funded projects are implemented in compliance with donor requirements and organizational policies, while proactively engaging with donors, partners, and clusters to maximize funding opportunities. The role will also involve building staff capacity in grants-related processes and ensuring a culture of accountability and learning across projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Proposal Development & Partnerships
- Identify Funding Opportunities: Continuously research and analyze donor trends, calls for proposals, and partnership opportunities from governments, foundations, UN agencies, and other relevant actors.
- Proposal Writing & Coordination: Draft high-quality proposals, concept notes, and budgets aligned with
- AFH’s strategy and donor requirements, ensuring technical accuracy and competitiveness.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work closely with program, MEAL, finance, logistics, and HR teams to gather inputs and ensure proposals are comprehensive, realistic, and implementable.
- Documentation & Compliance: Compile and organize required documentation (e.g., organizational policies, CVs, past performance references, audit reports) for submission.
- Partnership Building: Maintain positive relationships with donors, government bodies, and peer organizations; actively represent AFH Yemen in cluster meetings, donor briefings, and inter-agency forums to increase visibility and foster consortium opportunities.
2. Grant Management & Compliance
- Portfolio Oversight: Support the Grants Coordinator in overseeing the grant portfolio, ensuring projects adhere to contractual requirements, donor regulations, and organizational policies.
- Grant Tracking: Maintain updated grant trackers, pipelines, and calendars to monitor deadlines for proposals, reports, and donor communications.
- Risk Management: Identify compliance risks and propose mitigation measures to prevent delays, disallowances, or reputational issues.
- Budget Monitoring: Work with Finance and Program teams to track grant expenditures, flag variances, and support accurate financial reporting.
- Donor Communication: Serve as a point of contact for donors, ensuring timely responses to requests for information, clarifications, and updates.
3. Reporting & Documentation
- Narrative & Financial Reporting: Lead the preparation and submission of accurate, evidence-based narrative and financial reports to donors within deadlines.
- Internal Reporting: Prepare regular grant updates, lessons learned, and briefing notes for senior management and HQ.
- Knowledge Management: Maintain a central repository of proposals, reports, donor correspondence, and grant agreements.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL)
- Framework Development: Collaborate with MEAL staff to design donor-compliant monitoring and evaluation frameworks, tools, and reporting templates.
- Indicator Tracking: Support programs in setting measurable indicators and track project progress against targets.
- Data Collection & Analysis: Participate in field visits to collect and verify data, ensure quality standards, and analyze findings for reporting.
- Accountability Mechanisms: Ensure systems are in place for community feedback, complaints, and participation in line with CHS standards.
- Learning & Adaptation: Document and disseminate lessons learned, success stories, and best practices to inform future project design and fundraising.
5. Capacity Building & Staff Support
- Training & Orientation: Deliver orientation sessions for new staff on donor regulations, reporting standards, and grants compliance.
- Staff Development: Organize training and coaching sessions for program, MEAL, and operations staff on proposal development, report writing, data collection, and donor compliance.
- Internal Coordination: Facilitate cross-departmental learning sessions to strengthen understanding of grants processes and donor requirements.
6. Representation & External Engagement
- Cluster Participation: Represent AFH Yemen in relevant humanitarian and development cluster meetings (e.g., Food Security, Education, Protection, Health) and working groups.
- Networking: Build relationships with local and international NGOs, UN agencies, and coordination bodies to identify opportunities for joint programming and advocacy.
- Visibility: Contribute to the development of external communication materials (fact sheets, success
- stories, donor updates) to showcase AFH Yemen’s impact and strengthen donor confidence.
7. Field Engagement & Monitoring
- Field Visits: Conduct regular visits to project sites to monitor progress, collect qualitative and quantitative data, and verify compliance with donor and organizational standards.
- Community Engagement: Engage with beneficiaries and local stakeholders during monitoring missions to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Reporting Back: Prepare field visit reports highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations for program improvement.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Management, Development, or any related field
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in grants management, proposal writing, and donor engagement, ideally within INGOs.
- Strong knowledge of donor rules and regulations (e.g., UN, ECHO, USAID, FCDO, Sida).
- Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills in English & Arabic.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment and meet tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel to field locations.
