SUMMARY:

The Hydroponics Trainer will deliver a four-day practical training on the management and operation of hydroponic units under high-temperature conditions. The trainer will combine technical instruction with hands-on practice to strengthen trainees’ ability to operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot hydroponic systems during periods of heat stress.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The “Hydroponics Trainer “will be responsible for but not limited to:

• Deliver a four-day training on the management and operation of hydroponic units under high-temperature conditions.
• Explain heat stress and its effects on plants and hydroponic systems, including the effects of high nutrient-solution temperatures on root growth and the uptake of water and nutrients.
• Train participants on managing the greenhouse environment during hot conditions, including appropriate ventilation, shading, and cooling measures.
• Train participants to measure, monitor, interpret, and adjust electrical conductivity (EC), pH, and nutrient-solution temperature.
• Demonstrate how to prepare and adjust the nutrient solution according to climatic conditions and the crop growth stage.
• Train participants on irrigation management and scheduling, including the operation and programming of pumps according to plant water requirements under hot climatic conditions.
• Demonstrate best practices for maintaining nutrient-solution quality and efficient system operation during the summer and periods of high temperature.
• Train participants to carry out routine operation and preventive maintenance of hydroponic units, including inspection of pumps, irrigation lines, and other key system components.
• Train participants to identify symptoms of heat stress and nutrient deficiencies and distinguish them from symptoms caused by diseases and pests.
• Introduce the main diseases and pests associated with high-temperature conditions and demonstrate appropriate prevention and integrated pest-management measures.
• Guide participants in applying technical practices that reduce the impact of high temperatures and help maintain crop growth, productivity, and quality.
• Conduct practical exercises that enable participants to inspect hydroponic units, identify technical or crop-related problems, and take appropriate corrective actions.
• Support trainees to prepare a practical operation and management plan for hydroponic units during periods of high temperatures.
• Adhere to the organization’s safeguarding framework, including Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), child protection, anti-harassment, and ethical conduct policies, ensuring alignment with international standards (e.g., Core Humanitarian Standard, UN CRC
• Promptly report safeguarding concerns or violations through designated channels, maintain confidentiality, and participate in mandatory safeguarding training to uphold a safe, inclusive environment for all stakeholders

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

• Has at least Master degree or equivalent in Agricultural sciences. 
• Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular).
• Minimum of one year of experience in the same field.
• Knowledge of the context is plus.
• Fluency in Arabic is required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Good reporting skills.
• Demonstrated team spirit and ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
• Commitment to humanitarian principles, safeguarding, and accountability standards.
