Established in 2003, the National Microfinance Foundation (NMF) is Yemen’s leading non-governmental institution in financial inclusion. NMF works to improve the economic and social well-being of low- and limited-income communities by providing financial services and products otherwise inaccessible through traditional banking systems.
With 21 branches nationwide and one of the largest loan portfolios in Yemen, NMF is a key player in promoting inclusive finance for underserved populations. As it enters a new stage of growth, NMF seeks a visionary Managing Director to provide strategic direction, oversee operations, and lead its transformation into a leading national development institution.

Key Responsibilities

The Managing Director, reporting directly to the Board of Trustees  (BOT), will be responsible for overall leadership and organizational performance.

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the design and implementation of NMF’s strategic vision and multi-year work plans.
  • Prepare annual business plans aligned with NMF’s vision and mission.
  • Strengthen NMF’s reputation as a leading national development institution among donors, creditors, authorities, and stakeholders.
  • Drive NMF’s institutional transition into a regulated microfinance services.
  • Operational Management
  • Oversee day-to-day operations across branches and departments, ensuring efficiency and resilience.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor performance and identify growth opportunities.
  • Review and enhance operational policies and procedures, providing recommendations to the BOT.
  • Human Capital Development
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain high-caliber management professionals.
  • Build staff capacity through tailored training and development initiatives.
  • Portfolio and Financial Oversight
  • Monitor and analyze NMF’s loan portfolio, ensuring strong performance and risk management.
  • Mobilize resources from donors, investors, and development partners to sustain growth.
  • Supervise NMF’s financial performance and ensure achievement of planned targets.
  • Agility and Innovation
  • Apply adaptive management to navigate challenges and market shifts.
  • Develop innovative financial products and services that comply with regulations and respond to evolving client needs.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Foster strong relationships with shareholders, donors, creditors, and government authorities.
  • Represent NMF at national and international forums, promoting financial inclusion.
  • Maintain transparent and consistent communication with the BOD and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Competencies

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

Experience

  • At least 5 years in senior management roles within financial institutions, banks, or development organizations.
  • Proven success in managing donor relations and partnerships with government and international agencies.
  • Solid understanding of microfinance principles and the banking sector.

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong leadership, strategic planning, and organizational abilities.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with a results-driven mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills in Arabic and English (both written and spoken).
