ABOUT FMF:
The Field Medical Foundation (FMF) has been operating in Yemen for since 2012 during even the most dangerous peak of the conflict in the region. Our staff of dedicated professionals and passionate volunteers are the helping hand that delivers aid from local and/or international partners to those who require it the most, in a country that was already suffering before the war. Today we have helped humanitarian aid reach the hands of more than 9 million vulnerable people in Yemen to help them not only to survive but also to rebuild their lives. We aim to provide a comprehensive approach to providing aid through interventions, which is why we work in almost all sectors of international emergency relief.
POSITION PURPOSE:
The Media and Communications Officer supports the organization’s communication and visibility efforts by producing high-quality content that communicates programme activities, results, and impact to beneficiaries, donors, partners, and the public.
The position contributes to organizational visibility, donor reporting, advocacy, fundraising, and public engagement while ensuring compliance with branding, donor visibility, safeguarding, and ethical communication standards.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Content and Communications
- Develop, write, edit, and publish high-quality communication content in Arabic and English.
- Support the implementation of communication plans and content calendars.
- Develop communication materials for social media, websites, reports, campaigns, and other communication channels.
- Ensure content is accurate, clear, consistent, and appropriate for target audiences.
- Monitor content performance and contribute to improvements based on audience engagement and communication needs.
Graphic Design and Visual Content
- Design and develop high-Value visual and communication materials to support organizational activities, projects, and campaigns.
- Produce designs for social media, infographics, posters, banners, brochures, printed materials, and other communication and visibility products.
- Transform information, data, and project results into clear, engaging, and easy-to-understand visual content.
- Ensure all designs are consistent with the organization’s brand identity and donor visibility requirements.
- Develop and maintain templates and visual materials for campaigns, institutional communication, and project needs.
- Coordinate with programme and project teams to understand design and visibility requirements and develop appropriate materials.
Media Documentation
- Document program and project activities, achievements, and results throughout different stages of implementation.
- Develop and coordinate media coverage plans in line with project timelines and communication and visibility requirements.
- Ensure appropriate media documentation is available for organizational, donor, reporting, and visibility purposes.
- Prepare captions, descriptions, subtitles, and translations for multimedia content when required.
Storytelling and Impact Documentation
- Identify and develop human-interest stories, success stories, impact stories, and case studies.
- Conduct and coordinate interviews with beneficiaries, staff, and relevant stakeholders.
- Develop stories and communication materials that demonstrate programme impact and support donor reporting, advocacy, fundraising, and public communication.
- Ensure all stories are accurate, respectful, and aligned with organizational communication standards.
Visibility and Media Relations
- Coordinate communication and media coverage for organizational activities, projects, campaigns, and events.
- Prepare press releases, media updates, and other external communication materials as required.
- Support professional relationships and coordination with journalists, media outlets, partners, and relevant stakeholders.
- Develop and coordinate communication and visibility materials in accordance with organizational and donor requirements.
- Participate in relevant project and coordination meetings to identify communication, design, and visibility needs.
Media Management and Archiving
- Maintain an organized and accessible archive of communication, media, and design materials.
- Ensure project-related photos, videos, stories, designs, and communication outputs are properly categorized and stored.
- Maintain working files, templates, and editable design source files to support future updates and reuse.
- Maintain appropriate records of communication materials for reporting, visibility, and future organizational use.
Branding, Safeguarding and Ethical Communication
- Ensure compliance with organizational branding and donor visibility guidelines across all communication and visual materials.
- Obtain informed consent when documenting or interviewing beneficiaries.
- Apply safeguarding, ethical communication, and Do No Harm principles.
- Protect the privacy, dignity, and safety of beneficiaries and communities represented in communication materials.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Media, Communications, Graphic Design, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of relevant experience in media, communications, graphic design, or content development, preferably within humanitarian or development organizations.
- Practical experience in graphic design, visual content creation, media documentation, storytelling, and social media.
- Proficiency in design software, particularly Adobe Creative Cloud, as well as Canva or similar tools.
- Good ability to develop visual materials in line with brand identity, campaign requirements, and donor guidelines.
- Good command of Arabic and English, both written and spoken.
