Nursing Team Supervisor
Position status: Full time
Location: Ad Dahi Hospital – Ad Dahi District, Hodeida Governorate
Contract duration: 6 months contract possibility of extension based on the fund and performance.
Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, humanitarian, non-governmental organization providing assistance to people in need as a result of natural and man-made disasters, irrespective of race, religion, ideology or politics.
Main Purpose
Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, poli-cies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action.
Accountabilities
- Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e., perform as a nurse or anesthetist, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
- Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her specialty.
- Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
- Carry out and/or supervise the (decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.) in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are per-formed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
- Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
- Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
1. Clinical Supervision & Quality of Care
- Supervise and coordinate daily nursing activities on assigned ward(s) or shifts.
- Ensure nursing care complies with MSF protocols, guidelines, and SOPs.
- Support nurses in clinical decision-making and escalation of complex cases.
- Monitor quality of nursing documentation and patient follow-up.
- Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary discussions.
- Monitor and evaluate quality nursing indicators and give feedback for staff.
2. Team Supervision
- Organize shift planning and task allocation according to workload and skill mix.
- Provide on-the-job coaching, mentoring, and feedback to nurses and nurse aides.
- Identify performance gaps and report training needs to the Nursing Activity Manager.
- Promote teamwork, motivation, and a respectful working environment.
- Support induction of new staff and temporary emergency staff.
3. Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)
- Ensure strict application of IPC measures in the ward.
- Monitor hand hygiene, PPE use, waste management, and environmental cleanliness.
- Act immediately on IPC breaches and report suspected outbreaks.
- Work closely with hygiene and IPC focal points.
4. Patient Safety & Risk Management
- Promote a patient safety culture within the nursing team.
- Ensure identification, reporting, and follow-up of patient safety incidents.
- Implement corrective actions and preventive measures at ward level.
- Ensure respect for patient dignity, confidentiality, and informed consent.
5. Emergency & Workload Management
- Lead nursing teams during emergencies, mass casualty incidents, and disease outbreaks.
- Reorganize staffing and care priorities during surges or staff shortages.
- Ensure readiness of emergency equipment and supplies on the ward.
- Participate in emergency drills and preparedness activities.
6. Coordination & Communication
- Act as the link between nursing staff and nursing management.
- Ensure clear shift handovers and information flow.
- Participate in coordination meetings as requested.
7. Supplies & Equipment Oversight
- Monitor availability and proper use of nursing supplies and equipment.
- Anticipate needs and report shortages to avoid service disruption.
- Promote rational use of consumables and reduce wastage.
8. Training & Capacity Building
- Support implementation of nursing training plans at ward level.
- Facilitate bedside teaching and brief refreshers on nursing protocols.
- Identify staff for continuous professional development.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing and valid medical license are essential.
Experience
- Essential 2 years of previous experience. Having worked in MSF or other NGO’s and in developing countries is desirable. Having worked as a Nursing Team Supervisor with MSF or in a similar NGO will be an added advantage.
Languages: Fluent in English and Arabic are essential.
Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
